Just browsing options for an future project building another Irish army.

Anyone know how well these three companies mix?

Khurasan

QRF (I'm thinking Tudor Wars rather than Elizabethan as the Donnington stuff I already have is reasonably large)

Any photos of comparable figures much appreciated.

How about these from the Corvus Belli HYW range:

Nic: I just ordered some QRF to go along with the few packs of Corvus Belli Irish kerns (as seen above). I may pick up the Khurasan pikemen and O'Neill as well. I will snap some picks when they arrive next week. Obviously, I am painting and basing them for Irish Wars!

Cheers gents.

Martin, I had forgotten about those. I imagine Corvus Belli would be a bit slight alongside Donnington? I know that their respective ancients ranges wouldn't sit well on the same base.

PAR – do let me see the pics when you get a chance.

That's probably true compared to some of the original Donnington figures but they do vary a lot between ranges.

However the ones you've listed in the OP are from a "New ERA" range which I think are much more consistent. I don't own any so can't comment on the exact size comparison.

I've just compared the CB Irish with various infantry from the Donnington NE HYW range and they match very well. The Khurasan HYW range are also a good match but that doesn't necessarily help with the Irish COnfederate range – depends on the designer I think.

rampantlion01 Jun 2013 6:52 a.m. PST

The QRF Irish are slightly taller than the Essex Irish, but only slightly and the sculpting style is similar. I cannot speak for the Donnington figs.

Yes they are all compatible.

That said you might consider waiting for the Khurasan C16th Irish if its pike you want. I'm waiting too but its going to be worth it. Both the Irish Confederate and C16th Irish were designed by Clibanarium of this parish so a quality product is assured.

Corvus Belli are nice as always but those shields are not very Irish.

QRF Tudor Irish are very nice but of course no pike and no shot. Shame really as the designer got everything pretty much right.

Oh Bugger03 Jun 2013 6:59 a.m. PST

Just to avoid confusion these are the QRF Irish I prefer.

Cheers OB – any ETA on the Khurasan 16th C. Irish stuff? I heard rumours of them some time ago but haven't seen any updates.

Agreed about the CB shields but that can be sorted out very easily presuming they come separately.

Oh Bugger04 Jun 2013 2:33 a.m. PST

No Harry but they are all made and Khurasan recently said he had a lot of stuff at the casters. Hopefully they are there too. Perhaps he'll tell us if he reads this thread.

Yes no problem with CB if the shields are separate.

Been waiting nine months for the production castings of the Tyrone rebellion Irish!!!

Read the caster the riot act on it last week and now they are scrambling to get the moulds done.

Pikemen
Arquebusiers
Archers
Traditional infantry (javelins, shield optional)
Galloglaich in chainmail
Galloglaich in quilted armour
Redshanks with claymore
Infantry command

Armoured spear cavalry
Light cavalry
Mounted high command (general, standard, and priest)

Himself has painted these for display already so it's an all-clibinarium affair!

Am going to release these hopefully in a few weeks, followed by montrose Irish and a full line of ECW scots compatible with the Irish catholic confederates.

HarryHotspurEsq14 Jun 2013 7:52 a.m. PST

Now that is exciting news!

Oh Bugger14 Jun 2013 8:04 a.m. PST

Yes time to spend some money!

Any chance of a pack of separate shields?

clibinarium14 Jun 2013 8:09 a.m. PST

"Himself has painted these for display"; now there's a good Hiberno-English turn of phrase.

As Jon says this range has been cooking for quite a while now, and I've been waiting anxiously to see it released. I was a range I enjoyed doing, and it drew me perilously close to getting into the period (that may happen yet).

As a Tyrone man it was a range I took a close interest in!

HarryHotspurEsq14 Jun 2013 1:20 p.m. PST

Clib, I didn't no you were a neighbour! I'm just over the lough from you in Antrim.

khurasanminiatures14 Jun 2013 8:05 p.m. PST

Even better news is that clibinarium is next going to make the late Elizabethan English to face them!

Aren't you clibinarium? grin

clibinarium15 Jun 2013 4:21 a.m. PST

They are on the desk in front of me right now!
(WIP at least)

And indeed, the Khurasan miniatures are now available too… TMP link

Oh Bugger15 Jul 2013 6:50 a.m. PST

Just got my Khurasan Irish today.

They are excellent figures, great attention to detail and lovely sculpts. Sizewise they fit perfectly with Essex. I could not praise this range enough.
