Gentlemen, Can anyone tell me how to paint 15mm figs in rayadillo uniforms without it looking like thick blue stripes. Colin |

I've done them in 15 and 54. Just use a pale blue for the rayadillo. If you've ever seen the material, it's really too fine to portray. Most of the accounts that I've read describes the Spanish as pale blue until up close.Hope this helps. |

In 28mm, I paint them light blue as Wolfshanza. If you have a pair of Levi demin blue jeans, take a look at the inside. Turned inside-out, the Levis look very similar to rayadillo. |

I agree. Paint them a light blue-grey. The museum where I worked before I retired had a complete Spanish artillery officer's rayadillo uniform. One day two wargamer friends dropped in, so we hung the uniform at the end of the storage room and backed away until we could no longer make out the individual stripes. At about twelve feet the stripes disappeared and the uniform appeared to be a solid shade of light blue-grey. |

I've seen the Rayadillo attempted with the pin stripes and it never look all that good for the amount of work needed. I went with an undercoat of primer gray and then Model Master duck egg blue (4748). I suggest you get a copy of "The Rough Riders" movie and take a look at the uniforms there. In the close ups you can clearly see the pin stripes, however, at war game range the uniforms look almost white with a slight blue tint. Vince. |
