Some very interesting photos on this site,

indeed, as one of the comments says these photos are from 90s, so i doubt that T-34 are in official service anyware in Europe at the moment. Tanks wear out faster than artillery, when I look at coverage of some African wars I see WWII guns still in usage…

However there was one case of T-34 in service later than modern Balkan wars ;)

These "still in use" tanks are not. They are some old pieces cobbled together during the breakup of Yugoslavia. Have bo-peep on the web at some of the scratchbuilt vehicles used – they wouldn't have been out of place in the Spanish Civil War.

From wikipedia entries on the main former Yugoslav states, they operate T84 (local varient of the T72), T72 and T55 tanks. Serbia operates T84 and T72. Slovenia operates the T84 with T55 in reserve. Croatia operates the T84.

bit bizarre that a 2012 website has not realised that the Balkan war finished in 1995! sloppy journalism at its best!

Barin1, my question is why would you have a tank that is part of a public display still in any sort of operating condition? At least remove the distributor cap!

Barin128 May 2013 5:06 a.m. PST

I've been reading some background of this story – this particular tank moved to display on its own and as it was in Hungary which has a variable relations with history may be they have thought they would require a way to remove it;)

That being said, I saw a LOT of T34/85s during the Balkan conflict on the news (damn, was that 20 years ago already? /feels old). It seemed everyone was content to roll out with anything lethal enough to kill during that war.

The Serbs used an old M10 during the fighting at some point IIRC.

It was the ol' premise that any tank is gonna be better than no tank…..they used M36 Jacksons too, there is an Ebook on improvised armour of the Jugoslav Wars……well worth a look.

(typically can't find the link now!!)

I didn't get any on the link … but a very bad virus … that MSN is still trying to figure out …

Katzbalger28 May 2013 5:38 p.m. PST

My Norton told me it stopped some virus from that site--so if your protection is not up to date, don't go there!

Yeah, took them yesterday and this morning to clear it up … and cost me $99 USD … so I'm good … I hope ! huh?

Kaoschallenged29 May 2013 10:32 a.m. PST

WoW!! I'm sorry if you got a virus from that sight. My puter didn't get one and my Norton hasn't said anything about it or warned at all. I do apologize for this. Robert

Hey, you didn't know … And as we know, the bad guys spend time making stuff like that that is hard to kill … And MSN and others spend time killing them … I'd like to find out where the geek or geeks are and take $100 USD out of their Bleeped text knife … But they may be in Iran, China, Russia, etc., as well as some Bleeped text living in his mom's basement in Buffalo or San Fran !

My new tactic is not to click on any links posted here on threads … seems to be overkill, but we'll see …

Maxim #37: There is no overkill, there is only "Open Fire" and "I need to reload" evil grin

Strange how it seems to hit one person and not another Legion. I assume you can still click on the links I post from CARL and other government sites LOL. Robert

Yeah, don't know why it happened and I have MSN Security … So who knows ?

A SU 152 will still kill an M-1 or any other Nato battle queen.
