I'm painting some 15mm Spanish infantry in the pre-1808 uniform, and I've arrived at the point where I need to paint the bag on the back of the grenadier's cap.

I'm not happy with the results of my first attempt.

It seems like something that would be perfect for a decal. I've looked through the web and not found anything – probably because the logistics of making them are not reasonable.

How have others (with less than stellar painting skills) handled the painting of these grenadier cap bags?

For my grenadiers I did the bag in the facing color and then did a "figure eight" with the button color (gold or silver). I then put a small white dot at the top of the bag and put 3 or 4 small "ticks" of red, blue and yellow around it for the coat of arms. May not be historically correct but the effect works quite well in 15mm.
Hope this helps,
Tom

Tom,
Thanks for your input.

Your method is sort of what I attempted to do, but I wasn't happy with the result.

Probably need a steadier hand (or a smaller brush!!).

You may want to try technical pens, such as micron, staedler.

You can do a series of dots or ovals and then go back and fill in the middle for a nice circular/figure 8 pattern.

I've sent an inquiry to Stuart at Maverick Models requesting he consider doing these for his line of products and though interested, he has quite a backlog of new items in the works and this possible project would be on the back burner.

Thanks to all for their input.

Skeets, it would be great if Maverick Models would produce such a line, hopefully in 28mm and 15mm.

Does anyone have a definitive source of what the bag decoration looks like, regiment by regiment?
