During the unveiling of the new XBOX One Gaming/Media console, Spielberg confirmed he was producing a live action TV series set in the Halo universe.

Someone in the front row of the presentation had an audible nerdgasm as this was announced. ;)

The XBOX One looks pretty darned cool, too.

Shawn.

I hope "live action" doesn't mean: All humans, all the time.
I need at least some aliens in my Halo.

Yeah…. the only thing more mentally stimulating than playing video games is watching them on TV. I'm sure the 'plot' will be deep and original. Maybe there will be some shooting and explosions.

stay tuned for a Mario Brothers TV series, or maybe a 'Tetrus' TV series… or maybe Pac Man….

You really think it looks cool? It looks like a 1979 VCR! Blech! No wait. 1970s VCRs had more style than an Xbox One (what a lame and confusing name!).

I like how no price was announced. Only maybe 30 seconds total of "in game" play was shown, the rest was cut-scenes which always look better. Whoopie!

Not even a whisper about how a game disc will be registered to only the machine on which it first installs (no games will run from disk, all must be installed), killing used games.

No backward compatability with any Xbox games.

I don't give a rats patootie about hand gestures and voice to control the TV. Or "Xbox Glass". That stuff is such a gimmick, especially in a crowded room.

Can "the box" be used as a DVR? If not, then the entire thing is a waste.

But the fanboys will drool. All in all, a typical PR Hype Fest. (Sadly, there was a day when I used to write PR copy professionally in the construction industry, so I always chuckle about how they say things and what the don't say at such events and pressers. I watched the entire thing.)

BTW we've onwed an Xbox since the 1st one, but never an early adopter of either the Original or 360 until the bugs were worked out. We also own Playstations and Pre-Wii Nintendos. But this may be the end of Xbox for us.

Check Halo: Forward Until Dawn on Netflix. The Master Chief's bit was a bit dry but I really enjoyed it. If they stick with that basic idea I would watch it.

Woo hoo! – for halo tv…
And woo hoo! For new Xbox!

SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER21 May 2013 3:06 p.m. PST

meh to all of it.

On the XBox One: As with most boxes, I'm not as concerned with what it looks like, as with what's in it. ;)

I think the feature set they described looks great.

Shawn.

I have a big black monolith of a games PC sitting on my desk NOW that can play better games than anything that's likely to be on the corporate gated X-Box. (and still be less expensive all things considered) And I'm at the point where I see the word "franchise" the same as I see a poison warning symbol.

Big media and AAA games companies for at least a decade have not proven they can do anything worthwhile. Why get hyped?

Wolfprophet21 May 2013 4:45 p.m. PST

Yeah, Halo Forward Unto Dawn was proof they can do it and do it pretty well…. I would love to see it directed by Spielberg, but it needs to be more Band of Brothers and less Falling Skies.

Ironwolf21 May 2013 4:56 p.m. PST

If its as good or better than Unto Dawn, then I'm all for it.

Making a short story good and making a long running series good are two different things entirely. Just sayin'.

Oh, and Pac-Man IS getting another TV series. And Mario Brothers had several. :)

Oh dear….

Well, there it is.

If they can pull off "Foward Unto Dawn" most of the time, then Im for it. Otherwise, Captain Powers anyone ?
