I have a batch of British red coats from the Zulu Wars period in need of paint. Who makes a good red for this time period. |

I would think that just about any red would be just fine, Between inconsistent dye lots, fading in the African sun, etc. you would see just about any of shade imaginable. Use the one you like that covers your primer best. |

I agree with John, Use the one you like that covers your primer best. |

What the OFM said (if I'm allowed to agree with him). |

I found that mixing a little khaki into the red shades gives a nice sun-faded effect. |

According to regulations the coat colour should be scarlet for officers and men. |

When it doubt, use several to better reflect different levels of age, wear, and materials. Maybe a different shade for different units, if not individuals? Plus officers were more likely to have finer and tidier uniforms in general (keep those batmen busy!) as well as spares. |

While we're on the topic, can anyone suggest the best figures for this period -- wavering between 15mm and 28mm. Leaning 15mm for obviou$ reason$, but there has not been a TMP post about the best figure line for Zulu War in a couple years. Was wondering if you gents would know if there's anything different on the market. |

benglish, If I was starting over in 28mm, Empress Miniatures, by far. I've got mostly old Foundry figs (bought most of them in about 1988 or so) great figs, the best out there at the time. Nowadays when I add more Zulu War figs, Empress is the only company I even look at! They have just about everything you could ever want (except casualties, which I've asked for & they say they will get around to them, OK, Empress, lets see ya do em)! They really are that good!
