First name: Jonathan Last name: Laughrin Address:: 5106 Windward Ct Apt#3 , Sheboygan , Wisconsin , 53083 , USA Owner of WAW, Wisconsin AirSoft Wars, LLC. Email:: Jonjay.wi@gmail.com They contacted me this morning saying that they wanted my help making molds of my ships so he could cast his own for his gaming group (not for sale.) Really? The next dozen emails outlined that he wanted: "I was looking at paying $70 USD for your help and do a free e website. So you could do $10 USD, 000 plus in sales a month. Going to make 13 fleets for each planet, and than we need to make the cylon force 15 to 25% bigger. We plan on doing this over the next 2 yrs." Right
I sent him packing after he sent an order for one of each of everything he needed to re-cast. "C'mon! All the 'Cool Kids(tm)' are doing it, so why wouldn't you help me do it too?" (paraphrased from his intent.) I will not support re-casting, even OOP items for personal use for close friends, so why would I cut my own throat? Sellers beware as well as Manufacturers, this behavior is not something I will support, nor will I relent and let anyone do this to me and my family. I have 4 kids and a wife to support, I will not allow anyone to recast my products. They are priced as low as I can go, so there is no excuse for recasting. 'Drew studiobergstrom.com |

Sounds like this guy is a bit clueless. Maybe not so much a crook but completely clueless. He may /think/he is doing right. Of course he is not. Glad you sent him packing. Now, on to the good stuff. I like your star ships. I had no idea you even existed. So, you may be getting an order from me
by the end of the year anyway. :D John |

No worries Joker, let me know when you're ready. |
John the OFM | 21 May 2013 12:47 p.m. PST |
Let the bastard buy enough to game with. It's probably more expensive in the long run to cast that many. Ships? How many does he "need"? Idiot. |
Doctor X | 21 May 2013 1:18 p.m. PST |
Well he is from Sheboygan so don't expect much. |
| Unrepentant Werewolf 2 | 21 May 2013 1:20 p.m. PST |
You are right to tell him to bleep off, your stuff is reasonably priced (I know because I keep buying it). And the OFM's right, inasmuch as this 'person' is an idiot, a grade A certfied idiot. |

Says the guy blatantly infringing on several company's intellectual properties by making 'not' figures instead of licensing the likeness like he should, becuase it would be cost prohibitive. Recasting is bad, but justifying IP infringement by not calling them Cylons and Star Gate isn't exactly on the up and up. |

The irony is amusing, isn't it? Doug |

The kettle calling the pot black. No excuse for either. |
| Space Monkey | 21 May 2013 3:21 p.m. PST |
Yep, it's the old 'cast the first stone' thing. |

Wow, tat's pretty damned ballsy on both parts. -Eli |

I wondered when someone would notice the irony there. |
| CorSecEng | 21 May 2013 6:07 p.m. PST |
Wow he can make a website that will do $10 USDk a month? I need to talk to this fellow
|

Whew, we are awfully grumpy here. Especially when coming from a forum that consistently asks for figures from various material inspirations. I think it is fair to offer a warning about a potential recaster without being attacked. |

Ah, the bitter sting of TMP. |

I think those complaining about lack of proper licensing would be the same ones complaining about the high cost of 'official' miniatures----and not buying them---from said licensing. Hypocrisy, thy name is human :) |

I cant see, that is illegal. If i ask the owner of a product to help me make his product of my own
If he agrees, i surely have his allowance. So no theft. It is stupid, but illegal? |

.Oh boy THIS thread again
Inspired by is one thing, ripping off is another thing altogether.
For example this:
was inspired by this:
This however:
is clearly more than inspired by this:
The name of the image file is even 'obg'1 (original battlestar galactica 1 by any chance?)

Yes, also take a read of the description of his range called, "Star Warp Gate". Here is what is says. Drew must have really been inspired. "The Earth Alliance have discovered a cache of ancient technological marvels to add to those advanced of the Nordic demigods who partnered with them to defeat the parasitical Gooey Gods and the Gothic Vampires whom have both sworn to obliterate all life in two Galaxies!" Just saying. |

I have no major dog in this
Hence Popcorn.gif That said, I buy "nots" from Hasslefree and Guillotine Games
But neither would I cry "foul" for IP holders for C&Ding this guy or them. But until they DO get told to "knock it off" I'm not gonna say what they do is the same as a caster-reseller (whatever you call them) |
| BigNickR | 23 May 2013 12:01 a.m. PST |
I more take offense that the 1" ships look to have softer details than I'd prefer in my miniatures |

Not sure why you guys are getting so exciting
it's not liek it's proper historical wargaming or anything ;-) |
