Folks, I just picked up a bag of the old Frontier figures noted in the Subject line. It comes with 12 cannon and 48 gunners (all one pose and all kneeling, something I've not seen in other lines, but I do like it). Of the cannon, six are the Type 31 7.5 cm, but the other smaller guns have baffled me. Has anyone seen this set and have any idea what these small cannon represent. BTW, feel free to Email me direct at hmgs1@hotmail.com. Thanks. Colonel Bill ageofeagles.com |

Didn't the type 31 have a field gun and a mountain gun version. |

Yes there was a mountain version, and I have a picture of the same. I don't think that's what the smaller model actually is. Here is a link to a photo of the two guns via my Dropbox account: link Any ideas? Regards, Colonel Bill ageofeagles.com |

That looks an awful lot like your Japanese artillery set contained a number of the 'International Guns' from their legation set. I love the 15mm Frontier figures so I don't mean to say anything ill when I say that their quality control wasn't always the best. I'm nearly certain that's what it is. Regards Chris |

Good info. The list I have doesn't show a "Legation Set," but it may well be that they changed their packaging when they were bought by Haus of Stuff. Could be that all the artillery sets came with a few International Guns at that point, just before the firm tanked. Oh well, me researching what the hell these things were got me REAL informed on Japanese artillery and machine guns for the RJW :). Regards, Colonel Bill ageofeagles.com |

They did sell a Legation boxed set from the original clear packaging- I have owned and sold them twice – much to my later-life regret! They came with a mix of 6-10 of each nationality, the Colt MG, International Gun, nordenfelt (no crew figs) and some carving knife brigade fellows. In the early days they were the only ones who did 15mm Boxer Rebellion and not all their nationalities came with command figures etc. As I said I don't knock their quality control – but I do laugh because in most bags one can count on finding the odd AWI Highlander or SYW Prussian Musketeer. I had a good laugh at your point about RJW Japanese artillery research! Good luck Chris |
