97 years after a nuclear war has destroyed civilization, the show follows a spaceship housing the lone human survivors which sends 100 juvenile delinquents back to Earth to investigate the possibility of re-colonizing the planet.

There is the precedent for that, which might make for an interesting twist, especially with all the dangerous fauna there.

Makes as much sense as this speech from JFK, 1962: "We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard. Yes, it does kinda make sense.
The survivors are in space and they have no idea of the conditions on Earth.
So send the expendable delinquents and if they die, wait to send some more.

LOL @ Brother Jim, as the youth say these days.

Politically practical idea that . . . Sending teenagers however might be pragmatic biologically as such people are at their peak physically and could be expected to survive if there are conditions on Earth that are hostile ( New diseases, extreme weather, and so forth) without needing a huge tail of logistics for supporting complex survival equipment.
