As detailed in this blog post, a new edition of BattleTech's Introductory Box Set is in the works.

Notably, the two "bonus" 'Mechs are changing; with the Summoner and Hellbringer swapped out for the Timber Wolf and (Reseen) BattleMaster.

So, for anyone looking to get a copy, it might be worth waiting until this set is out instead.

I thought this was the new Battletech starter box.

Nah, though I'm going to be hating life until I finish the Jovian Chronicles stats for everything in the Battle Cry set… well, and all the other stuff!

But, will they finally release a BT intro set with hard plastic instead of the bendy stuff? If not, I'll pass…

Patrick R20 May 2013 1:22 p.m. PST

They should do a revamped boxed set of the original Plastech mechs.

Looks like the entire box is rescuplted based on the Iron Wind metal designs. They also changed manufacturers. So it's plausible that they changed the plastic as well.

It will be entertaining to see if they found a Chinese company that will not screw them over right before the release.

I should start researching injection molding companies in the US. Might be able to offer a sourcing service that can compete with the chinese on 5000 or so unit runs. Freight and time to market are huge with China. Do you save 2 cents per unit or do you have it on the market in less then 2 months.

Huh, well, the four examples pictured in the article appear decent… The first two sculpts that would be bendy plastic actually look pretty nice and the next two pictured Mechs that would be hard plastic look good… So, maybe, this might be a new product to look forward to after all?

How about the UK, for that matter? Renedra does their own work AFAIK.

Wow,
If the plastics are all up to the quality of these two examples…

…then It'll be a must-buy for sure. Especially since the new "Alpha Strike" book (really looking forward to this) will make it easier to play a game using all the mechs in the box.
I've got the last box set, but I'll definitely be buying this one as well, and I don't even play CBT.

I agree with you, ordinarybass! I'm in for this one just for the mechs, assuming they still look this nice closer to release.

BigNickR20 May 2013 11:00 p.m. PST

sadly no… I have a ton of battletech that I'm looking to REDUCE

meh. giant robots bristling with ineffective weapons slugging it out with tedious rules.
Still, it remains popular, and I hope it does well.

Don't want to sound negative, but generally it's CGL doing the screwing and the screwing up…

As for US or UK based plastics, the problem isn't the 2 cents/sprue extra, it's the at least five times higher cost of the mold. Rather painful when your paying $25,000 USD instead of $5,000 USD (or less) for a sprue…

Dreamforge got excellent product at a reasonable speed, not as fast as was hoped, but still pretty fast. And not meeting 'deadlines' is not something that is unique to China, look at the plastic sprues for the Defiance Games UAMC Infantry, that took ages and was one simpel sprue. The stuff Dreamforge is producing is very detailed, complex and is a LOT of sprues.

The delays are generally due to customs, it's either that US customs is a racist bunch that puts everything coming from China on the docks for two months or the folks doing the importing don't know how to effectively import products and get things through customs. One usually hires a specialist company to handle getting a container through customs when the content is time sensitive…
