Yes and no.

When I am playing with friends at the house or at their houses no. With historical's we very often do not have balanced teams, as we might do something fun like a small greek army against a much larger persian one or a a group of Germans with two broken tanks (no movement or slow movement)trying to hold a village against a soviet onslaught as the ruskies turn the war. Its more fun to have everyone controlling their own little part of the battle and enjoying the success or loss of individual units.

At game stores I like to win. Though to be honest I find so many players power game or strait up cheat (often times its the people who seem to remember every rule as they apply to you but forget so many as it applies to them, or use specific lists and remember that lists advantages but not its disadvantages, or just points cheat) that I rarely go play in stores. But when I do, I usually wan't to win.

But with friends no. I think its sometimes more fun setting the table up and boasting / joking before the game even starts than actually playing when it comes to playing with friends. And its just so fun to see two or more beautifully painted armies on the table at once.

wel I can defnitely say "no" really. The game went ahead as planned. After twists and turns, even complaining that it was to easy to identify the enemy, and then getting it wrong and having to send maore data. However I let myself off as I had sent a crediable warning order. End of game was gloriasly disputed. Both of us met our basic objective but neither won any prizes for performance. However both agreed that the game was stunning, showing all the issues with reconnisance and leaded to facinating debates about whether aggressive of stealthy recon was the way to go. A perfect game and no obvious winner. However both agreed it was a facinating game with lots to commend it. The re-fight swapping roles is on programme. I'd offer it as a scenario but it proably won't translate out of MG and the fact that there were only 3 shotsfired during the game may, make it of no interest except to simulators. Ps game abbandoned when attacker met his objectives, We could have fought on but the puzzle was solved so the interest had gone.

Wining, I rather act out/write a story.

PS if you have MG then you can e-mail me for the Scenario but in climbing terms the scenario is Hard Sever, rules very basic.
