Doing a preliminary search and destroy reconnaissance for Long Beach area and points north from Santa Barbara to Oceanside in the south. Looks like I might be out there this coming summer for several months at least.

Any recommendations on places to live that are within easy commuting distance to Long Beach as well.

Right now I am mostly into ACW, Ancients, Napolonics, Force on Force Vietnam to Modern, F&I Wars, Some WWII, Star Wars X-Wing, & Hoth SWMB and home rules, and Zombies. Will play other areas as well just not as active on having figures for those. Not much on Fantasy or Tournaments outside of FoW and W-Wing.

Yes I have meet Larry several times at HMGS-East conventions and have ordered from them. I look forward to visiting when I am there. As a matter of fact after I hit Monument Valley and the Grand Canyon again on the way out I will have Brookhurst on my "Must see places" in the LA area.

Stores:

The War House is in Long Beach. I haven't been in the store for a number of years but I see them a couple times a year at cons. I know they carry GHQ, FoW, and Wings of Glory amongst others and I believe they have some gaming space.

Aero Hobbies in Santa Monica. FoW, Wings of Glory, Bolt Action, and lots of board games. Gaming in the store everyday; Keith, the owner, is very gamer-friendly.

Clubs:

Aero Hobbies has "HMGS-PSW Day" the first Sunday of every month. FoW, Bolt Action, and Check Your 6 are staples, there's usually also an ancients or ACW game as well.

The St. Crispin's Irregulars meets the second Saturday of every month in Anaheim. A bit of everything is played; historic games this month were FoW, ACW, and Check Your 6. They're on Meetup and (I think) facebook but as I personally don't do the social network thing I don't know the details. Send me a PM if you want any more info about these two.

There's a group of historical gamers that meets in somebody's house in Long Beach but I don't know anything beyond that.

HMGS-PSW is having a WW II day in Anaheim on June 22. PM me for more info.

Strategicon has three large cons per year at a hotel down the street from LAX. The next one is this coming weekend, the one after that is on Labor Day weekend.

As for places to live near Long Beach stay away from Carson, Compton, and Signal Hill. Can't really give you any detailed recommendations without knowing your specifics.

Brookhurst hobbies is probably the best stocked historical wargames shop in the world. I know of no better! It is my first port of call when I go to California. A fine selection of reference books too. I rather like the strawberry milkshakes from the burger place over the road. they were called???? sorry it's gone from my mind as my brain stopped working after "fast and furious 6" tonight.

And Brookhurst has sold me all the Peter Pig figures I have ever purchased. Seems like reason enough to relocate!

I'm down in San Diego, but I'd drive up for a game:

15mm Sci-fi wargaming
Squadron scale starship wargaming
Sci-Fi RPG – Eclipse Phase, Traveller

I'd be interested in Zombie games, but I don't have the minis for it.

Brookhurst used to have (Saturday Night?) Game nights; One visit, five years ago? (Ten?) My brother lives in Irvine, more important things to do with small children in the house.

Can anyone give a more recent report on what actually happens when there is a game night there? Or if there is one?
