On a different forum there was a discussion regarding finding opponents for different games. Got me thinking as to how many opponent's people on average have for their preferred gaming poison? Battlegroup Kursk: 2 regular opponents Fields of Glory: 1 regular opponent Flames of War: 2 regular opponents + 2 casual opponents. WH40K – about half a dozen potential opponents. Force on Force (future): 2 regular opponents – same 2 as BGK.

I belong to several gaming groups, so
a couple dozen? |

If I just count people who attend the local gaming centre then about 20. If I expand my radius to perhaps 20 miles then that probably doubles. Long and short, lots :D |
| Pete Melvin | 20 May 2013 2:01 a.m. PST |
As above. 20 odd probably. Add %50 for surrounding clubs. |
| Fried Flintstone | 20 May 2013 2:07 a.m. PST |
about 20 – we usually play group games with 6-8 people |

My interest is exclusively historical wargaming (which is less about 'regular opponents' for particular 'games' – my local group would play a period or scenario – say, ACW: but which rules were used would largely be down to who put the game on, could be PP's CWB, could be Black Powder e.g.) .. I am a member of the Society of Ancients, Wargame Develpoments etc. so my actual 'player pool' is vast. Locally, we prefer multi-player games 'at home' on a weekly basis, mostly 4 to 6 players depending on family commitments period and game very variable. I am doing the next one and it is WWII. We'll be using PBI. I'm expecting 4 players and will umpire, not play, myself. Phil |

16 on our email distribution list for our weekly meet. Not all come all the time though. |

Like Phil, we don't really specialise in particular sets of rules with particular people. The club gets maybe 20-30 people turn up each week and I have regional, national and international contacts for the less regular stuff. |

In our club there are around a dozen historical guys and another 5-10 who do its and pieces such as SAGA and Bolt Action. Cheers Jaz revolutionaryroads.com – revolutionary new wargaming roads |

At least half a dozen for any historical period. |
| 45thdiv | 20 May 2013 3:23 a.m. PST |
Between 2 and 8. Depends on the game. Also depends on work schedules and other conflicts. We only meet once a month, trying to correct that though. |

Roughly 10. 2 of them play boardgames and all of them play miniatures games with varied interests. Hard to get an exact count since some of them are club members that show up once or twice a year but the core core or the group is 10 people that show up regularly. |

Currently all solo. But have played solo against about a dozen people in last couple of years (PBM games) |
| Rrobbyrobot | 20 May 2013 6:54 a.m. PST |
I was strictly a solo gamer for awhile. Like nearly ten years. But I recently found my way back into some opposed gaming again. As for how many opponents I have. I'm not sure yet. |

In my Aerodrome club,we get about 6-8 regulars(self included). Some prefer to fly CP,others Allies. Flexible myself. |
| Texas Jack | 20 May 2013 7:15 a.m. PST |
Unless I can drag my son away from his computer, I am solo. But I am grooming my six year old daughter to be a gamer, so we will see. |

Historicals I have 1 regular (not including my teenage son who I take to everything), 2 others who are fair weather. Warhammer 40K: probably 10 or so. A really strong local group. Warhammer Fantasy. None
I have to raise two armies and beg people to play with me (aside from my son, who really is turning into a great wargamer). Lesson to be taken from this: Breed and raise your own gamer. ;-) |

At the Falkirk club we have 40+ members – I probably play agiasnt say a couple of dozen in a year. Given other 'stragglers' 30 would not be a bad number |

I consider everybody I meet an opponent. Wait
oh.. You said wargaming opponent
About a dozen.

Saturday night Militia games, around 6 regulars, could go up a little higher. Sunday Afternoon Flames of War Gentlemen, about 6, with a lot of overlap from Saturday. Occasional guests. |
Frederick | 20 May 2013 8:46 a.m. PST |
Regularly 2 (usually the Little Prince) – sometimes 4; at the local club, 6 to 8 but this is maybe three times a year |
| nickinsomerset | 20 May 2013 12:13 p.m. PST |
A couple of dozen through the year, Tally Ho! |
| infman | 20 May 2013 1:55 p.m. PST |
Big fat zero. My only regular opponent just moved away:-( I'm now trying to get my sons to drop the x-box and push some lead around occasionally. Not much joy yet

We have an ancients/medieval group in St. Louis with about 12 overall and 4-6 hardcore participants. We don't get out much or we might be able to expand that a bit. |

We have a bunch of us that play on a regular basis, about 6 to 8 at any particular weekend, for historicals. Right now we are playing Flames of War. We might go on to Seven Years War (Koenig Krieg). For Sci-fi and Fantasy stuff, I have about 4 or 5 potential opponents, plus the game store groups in Houston. |
peterx | 21 May 2013 5:12 a.m. PST |
Mostly one. That's enough. |
| vtsaogames | 21 May 2013 8:04 a.m. PST |
Corlears Hook Fencibles = 4 other guys, and one member who moved out of town and puts in a yearly appearance or two. We have been deep into black powder period for the last few years, with the odd side trip into the Great War. We also have ancient and medieval armies that have lain fallow of late. My WWII guys haven't been out of their boxes for quite a while. |
