Thats excellent Brian. I found two pics of my grandfather coming off a troopship on the Australian War Memorial website and it felt like a lotto win.

My dad was in Italy too. Didn't make it to Oct. 44. He got wounded in Feb. at Anzio. I also am as proud as can be.

Not that we need another message board, but it would be cool to have a "Family War Stories Board" where we can share stuff like this. Maybe delete 12 other unused boards for one of those… :)

Now there's the best new board suggestion since TMP started.

He looks a top bloke.
Make's me proud to see him., like a distance cousin.
My uncle was at Arnhem,
Other Uncle RAF Navigator in Burma,
My old man " die hard" in Korea, God bless him.
My mate was a Cockney cowboy, London area reg in Iraq.
Seems to run in all our blood.
Cheers for sharing, very moving.

I found the "Caution RHD" amusing, as most vehicles in the ETO came from the US, they were marked (for use in the UK) "Caution Left Hand Drive."

My dad was in Korea, and I would love to be able to find a picture like that. Great photo and great history!

I have about a dozen hours of audio of Dad's memoirs as well. Still wondering what exactly to do with them.

A friend of mine recently posted a picture on Facebook of his dad catching a snooze during training in 1942. Amazing stuff. I have a studio photo of my dad in uniform, at attention. It's tiny.

Brian, transfer his audio to a longer lasting medium? Or transcribe them. I have lots of questions for my father and grandfather, but it's too late.

Woolshed Wargamer21 May 2013 12:18 p.m. PST

I have a friend who is a typist who transcribes documents – how fortuitous. That is next step. I have multiple backups in different places so they are currently safe.
