This is the post-WW1 variant, though the Mk XIX 6" gun saw service with the British from 1916.

One of the gunners is walking backwards :) The loading cradle is used to align the projectile with the breech so that the gunners with the rammer can push it home cleanly and engage the copper driving band with the rifling. You can see this being done on the 5.5" piece here:
