Our group is progressing (regressing?) back in time doing historical games. We started with ACW, have done Mex-Am and Napoleonics (all in 6mm, Polemos) We are now looking to AWI in 15mm. We've decided on 2 battles, 1 skirmish, 1 formed troops. Ticonderoga is our preferred skirmish battle (15mm individually based troops.) We're thinking of using Mordheim rules for the skirmish game. How feasible do you think that is? Part two: For the larger "formed troops" battle, what would be a good one, smaller than Saratoga, bigger then Cowpens (15mm) ? (broad range I know,m but we're looking for some inspiration) TIA! Big Joe Duke |

I think for something like Ticonderoga I would use a set of rules that allow a quicker game than the Mordheim, set like The Sword and the Flame. As for the AWI battle can I direct you to the three scenario books from Caliver books, I have all three and they cover all sorts of AWI battles from skirmishes to your larger Divisional type game. Guilford Courthouse comes to mind. And I like the Muskets and Tomahawks by Studio Tomahawk rules myself. |

I've done several large (300 plus figures)AWI skirmish games using Toofatlardies' Sharp Practice. Really a very good set of rules that conveys friction and casualty rates realistically. You can dress it up with side stories and character development or just run a game as a straight fight. It also works well with up to 6 players. |
