What with me doing so much 6mm stuff to support HorizonWars, I thought it was time I did a hobby-focused BattleCast, as I'll not be going back to HobbyCast format again (too much like hard work!). Check it out. It's very amateur, but I hope you enjoy it: bit.ly/15WP5gq You can also subscribe on iTunes if you like what you hear. |

Cool stuff. It is the only Podcast I have ever listened to in its entirety. Such is my passion for the 6mm. I have to say that for the most part you are spot on in what you said for my money. I think I may be one of the few however, that does not like Mechs. But I agree with what you said about them and their like (Titans etc) allowing a bit of character. However, I like to think all my 6mm have character but only a few are individuals.
For example Major Michael Kemp of the RDF is just a single 6mm model but I have his persona and what not all in my mind, the same with Sam Ramirez and the other squad leaders. They all have names, a nationality and a rough personality drafted out. This is not tied to any scale, but as you say it can be trickier to paint them in a unique fashion. So I think for my mind, all my 6mm have character but not all of them look individual. If that matters/makes any difference? You are spot on that a 6mm force can be painted very quickly and still look good. Yes, you and I and a few others may ink wash and shade and highlight and pick out belts and webbing and so on with 6mm. Can this be seen from 3 feet away? Nope, as you rightly said. Does this mean it is a waste of time, no again as you rightly said; it was the FUN part of the 3 criteria. If you like painting them to a higher standard then do it, just because others do not does not mean it is silly.
I know mine are painted better than some others, I know that very few people can see the extra detail and attention I have lavished on them, but I know and that is the reason for doing it. I am glad you have embraced the 6mm goodness and are spreading the joy. Thanks for the good Podcast and the effort you put into it and double thanks for the plugs!

Of course, you can invest a character in a model, Mike. It doesn't matter what size it is. But will your opponent get a sense of that character from the model alone? As you rightly observe, they won't see the time and effort you've put in and, honestly, even your minis aren't detailed enough to really nail it. It's not that it's not possible in the scale. It's just that no human eye is sufficiently keen to appreciate it. |

Aye, I do it simply cos I want too. Like on this Adler figure:
That was a one off, so I did not mind spending 4 hours painting a single 6mm figure, had I 1000 to do though
. No way I would normally paint buttons onto a trouser leg.
When does your club meet again?

Good podcast! I think character for 6mm figs is helped by distinctive basing
I've seen Epic 40K characters done up with little vignettes on their bases
corpses of enemies, those flying skull thingies, etc. |

Thanks, Space Wizard. That's a really good point. I didn't really talk basing, because I know it can be one of those touchstone issues in the 6mm community, but I think you're dead right. Angel Barracks – I play mostly at the Gloucester Games Bunker on Wednesday evenings, 6.30-10pm. |

I certainly might visit, stenicplus. Not sure I could stay for the whole weekend, as I've already been given a leave pass for the UK Games Expo this weekend. However, I always like a chance to meet new gamers on the area! |

Ohh, I will be there on the Saturday. That may or may not be viewed as good or bad though! Michael.
