Is the Zvezda Pz IV Ausf D close enough in 1/100 to sub as an Ausf E? Treadheads…GO! :)

I haven't got one, but no reason to doubt it is not 1/100. As for the differences the E had a new cupola, a single piece rear turret plate and extra armour – the only noticable one being the applique plate on the hull front. Here's a good pic. Scroll down.

So the cupola and extra armor is the big difference. I suppose at 1/100 that wouldn't be too hard to fudge.

I wouldn't bother with the cupola unless you are very fussy. If you are set on it Peter Pig Panzer IV's have separate cupolas and they will sell you things like that on special order. The extra armour would be easy enough to do with plastic card. Are you doing the E's for '41? If so you will need the turret stowage bins. Does the Zvezda kit have them?

Yes, the Zvezda kit has the stowage bins. I was actually thinking Kursk. According to this page link there were still some E's floating around. I just bought the Zvezda kit on a whim but don't have too much interest in early Eastern Front. DAK would be cool but the vast majority of the stuff I have acquired over the last few months is for Kursk. As an aside, Battlegroup Kursk has the E's as an option as well.

"Yes, the Zvezda kit has the stowage bins."

The cover art has them, but all the pictures I've seen of the models lack them (the cover art isn't even a D, its an F1 I think)

I've got a Zvezda PvIV kicking around somewhere. Pretty sure there's no turret-rear bin.

Ah I think you are right. I am confusing the Pz III from Zvezda. My bad!
Looks like we will be keeping that bad boy in Africa! :)

I have the Zvezda Pz.IV D and the BF Pz.IV F1/F2 – the Zvezda is noticably smaller when side-by-side with the BF model, unfortunately (shorter, smaller turret).

I use PSC Pz.IIIs in the same force as the Zvezda Pz.IV Ds and they are actually bigger as well. So I would have to say that the Zvezda model is probably not "true" 15mm….but close enough.

OK so I am nosing around TMP and am now under the impression that the PZ IV Ausf D's sent to Africa had the stowage bin on the turret. Is this the case? And if so, is the Zvezda model an 'error' meaning it is a model of a version which would not have been fielded on the Eastern Front which their line of models seems to be oriented towards? I am getting the feeling that this tank should be for Poland(not lumping this into Eastern Front) or France.
