I have the first two and like them both. I also really like his book on the first Gulf War entitled Crusade. I could be wrong (it's been awhile), but I think the first Gulf War and the writing of Crusade are reasons there was such a long time between the publication of An Army At Dawn and The Day of Battle. Anyway, thanks for posting this, it has been on my need-to-get-when-it-comes-out list for a long time. |

Thatīs good to hear. I have the first volume, An Army at Dawn, which is really superb. I guess now I will have to spring for the remaining two. Looking forward to them! |

I just don't get his stuff. For the most part it is recycled material from other books, and he gets a lot of stuff just plain wrong. It's funny how "best selling' history seems to be based upon one's style rather than how good and accurate a historian one is. |

I thought his first book about North Africa was really excellent. And as far as recycling from other books, well, isnīt that what everyone for the most part does? Very little of what is being written, especially about WWII, is original research. The trick is to put together information already out there into a form that supports a well-written opinion. Thatīs not saying there isnīt original research going on, but when it does appear it is frequently labeled revisionist and derided as such. Damned if you do, damned if you donīt I suppose |

I liked the first two and will undoubtedly buy the third. jgawne, I know this will likely put a dent in my day but would you mind giving an example or two where Atkinson is just plain wrong? I'm most definitely NOT trying to start a flame war its just that inquiring minds want to know. Thanks. |

Our gaming group travelled to Cantigny in Wheaton, IL to hear him speak last Wednesday. He is a really excellent speaker. The book looks pretty interesting. |

I spoke with him at the Pritzker in Chicago. The Iraq book delayed part 3 of the trilogy. There is a massive amount of original research being done regarding WW2 (by the way) |

The only point I remember Atkinson being wrong on something is when he talks about starting a jeep with a key. That is pretty minor, though. Welcome elucidation of any more major errors. I enjoy his books and I'll get this next one when I can afford it. |
