On Thursday, May 16th 2013, Fred Funcken passed away at the age of 91 years leaving a legacy and fond memories for many wargamers and Comic readers on my generation. I have done a quick veneration on my blog link cheers Matt |

I'd consider Mr. Funcken a notable name in wargaming, as notable as Scruby, Featherstone, Young, and others. His books, some of which he collaborated with his wife, were, and still are, great reference material. Godspeed, Mr. Funcken, and thank you VERY, very much. |

91 and very much appreciated by those such as us, so I'd say he had a pretty good run. |

I've got a row of those books in my bookshelf alongside me – a treasured part of my memories of this wonderful hobby. |

Sorry to hear of his passing. I have owned both parts of his Napoleonic Uniforms series for over 30 years and even though I have added many other reference material I still refer constantly to these books. |

I made a decision a while ago to go back to using the Funken & Blandford books as un iform colour guides – more than enough detail for wargaming. The Funkens illustrations were just so inspiring as well – the books are beautiful objects bin themselves. Sad news – but a long and productive life that should be celebrated. |

Perhaps I should drape my Funcken book in black. Adios, compadre. |

I'm sorry that the great Mr. Funcken is gone. May he rest in peace. I have several of Mr. Funcken's uniform books myself, and have had the Napoleonic ones since I was in high school. But I never knew he drew Tintin until today! |

No
sad loss, then – the Napoleonic volumes were a near bible when we were teenage wargamers all those years ago

There was a Tintin magazine and his work was published in it as educational material for the kids. |
