I see them everywhere in SE Pennsylvania as static displays |

"Its kind of shocking someone had to ask." Truly, given how standard the '60 is
|
| Rrobbyrobot | 17 May 2013 4:40 p.m. PST |
That's an old friend of mine. An M60A3. Last version of the M60 series. Spent many a day on one. |
| taskforce58 | 17 May 2013 4:44 p.m. PST |
I can tell it's either a M60A1 or A3, but not sure of the difference of the two sub-types. |
| monger | 17 May 2013 4:53 p.m. PST |
Wanna hear something even MORE shocking? I know NOTHING about modern (post WW II, that is) tanks. |
| VonBurge | 17 May 2013 4:55 p.m. PST |
I'm sure it's an A3. It seems to have the TTS (thermal televison sight) housing above the gunners position. It's kind of hard to see with the unsteady camera movement though. |
| Rrobbyrobot | 17 May 2013 5:08 p.m. PST |
The main identifying characteristics are the thermal shroud on the main gun tube. And the mast for the wind sensor on the left rear of the turret roof. |
| SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER | 17 May 2013 5:18 p.m. PST |
Just about all I've seen on display are A3s. It's in beautiful shape. |
| Destrier | 17 May 2013 5:54 p.m. PST |
monger – now you know that tank is a M60A3!! :) |

14Bore | 17 May 2013 6:40 p.m. PST |
Some static displays have markers but guessing this one didn't. |
| monger | 17 May 2013 6:49 p.m. PST |
No markers at all. If I get the time next week I will post a more stable vid on the tank. I was working at the time
and jumped at the chance to get a quick vid :) It really is in pretty nice shape to. Pretty sweet looker really. |

Oh
and one reason I asked
was I was thinking of doing a model of this tank
for my collection. I know very little about post ww II tanks, and this one just looked so awesome. |

Always ask – you'll never learn otherwise! (And as an 11H anti-armor infantryman it's an M60A3) |

Are you thinking of doing a wargaming model, or a 1/35 scale model? If the latter, AFV Club is supposedly coming out with a kit sometime this year. Barring that the Italeri kit (ex-Esci) is the most accurate/detailed kit on the market now, with the Academy kits being slightly better copies of Tamiya's ancient kit (some of the parts date back IIRC to the late '60s/early '70s)

14Bore | 18 May 2013 5:23 a.m. PST |
There is one only a mile away from me at a VFW, will stop to see if it has a marker and what model it is. |
Legion 4 | 18 May 2013 7:29 a.m. PST |
Yep, the M60 is familiar to me as well
Does not surprise me that it unknown to that individual
Most civilians don't know the difference between an AFV and a big construction tractor
If it has tracks on it
it's a tank ! LOL !! |

My dad worked at the Material and Training Equipment Sites (MATES) on Fort Hood for many, many years. They maintained all of the vehicles for the 49th Armored Division (Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisianna National Guard units) and loaned out vehicles to National Guard units from all over the US doing annual training on Fort Hood. For most of my childhood, they were equipped with M60s and to me that is the definition of 'tank'. When the 49th AD transitioned to M1's, MATES was basically giving away M60A3s to anyone who would give them a home and nominally promise to take care of them. They demilitarized them and shipped them out all over the country. |

I sent my parents a picture of me by an M109. They wrote back why was I by a tank, wasnt I in the Artillery. Owen |

Only dumb questions are the one you never ask. "Dude, what hours are the computer lab open on Christmas?" Sorry, this is a dumb question and I heard it least ten times every semester when I worked for (spit!) Tulane University. LT |

The main identifying characteristics are the thermal shroud on the main gun tube. And the mast for the wind sensor on the left rear of the turret roof. Also the top-loading air filter boxes, which this vehicle has. It also has the M48 wheels, another sign its probably an A3. |
