Hi all,

Firstly an apology, this post more properly belongs in "Marketplace", but I hope the membership and the Editor will forgive me for reasons that will become apparent below.

I've sculpted a set of three 28mm Shaolin Monks (though they could perhaps pass for Japanese or Korean monks at a stretch), and I'm auctioning them on eBay.

The genesis of these figures lies in the loss of a friend. About eight weeks ago an instructor at the Taekwondo club I attend, died after a struggle with cancer. He had been ill for just over a year, and it was a big shock. He was only 40.

This weekend our club is participating in a charity walk up Slieve Donnard, one of the Mourne Mountains.
I was having real problems getting sponsorship, (working at home and being very busy put a cramp on seeing your friends and family!) so I hit on the idea that I could more usefully contribute by sculpting up some figures and auction them off. I wanted them to have a martial arts theme, but thought the subject of Shaolin might be more useful to gamers than modern Taekwondo practitioners.

Unfortunately due to time constraints I had to scale back my original plans from six to three.
All the profits will be going to Marie Curie Cancer Care, I'll not benefit myself, so I hope that given the cause I'll be forgiven for straying from the "Marketplace" board.

Anyway I hope you like them and hopefully the buyer will cast them up and make them available.
thanks for having a look.

My condolences on your friend. There are not many good sculpts of monks that I have found on the market. These look very good to me. I hope I do see them for sale commercially in the future.

I'll start the bidding so you can get the ball rolling…

Well, I can't afford the price for masters/commercial production, but I'm in for several sets of those three from whoever picks them up!

Even at $10 USD a mini.

Those are awesome. I'll pick up a set from whoever gets these into production as well.

My condolences to the sculptor.

Oh, yes.

Beautiful and dynamic.

Please, can I preorder them? ;-)

What is so nice about these sculpts is the knowledge you brought to the subject. It's great to see dynamic and accurate/reasonable poses. Good luck!

Great sculpts! My condolences on losing your friend.

Thanks everyone for the condolences. He was a man with a lot of friends; 170 people went up the mountain on Saturday. It was a great day, though everyone got completely soaked. As of Saturday morning £20,000.00 GBP has been raised, it will be more by the end of the week.

Thanks very much to napthyme for kicking things off!

photocrinch; thanks for noticing that. I was working from images that I simply googled, but found to really get the positions right I had to get up and actually get into them before I really understood where the limbs went and what the angles were!

Auction ends tonight at about 10.15 British Summer Time. Cheers all.
