I've nearly completed my first two confederate cavalry, they are the first repaints I've done after stripping the figures. Normally I just repaint them over the original paintwork, but i wasn't happy with the lack of detail on certain areas! So I got some paint stripper and I must admit I'm impressed with the results. Anyhow here's my first two, I think I've captured the look i was after
so thanks for looking feedback welcome, cheers for now Russ

The restripping makes sense. I was about to ask why there seemed to be a resurgence in Dixon sales all of a sudden! I've never owned any but I like them and as you've proven, a great paintjob can ameliorate the sins of the sculptor. |

I like the horses. The color choice you picked for the straps and such is very nice. Not sure if I would have done that. I seem to do all black leather. I really like the way the color pops. Did you use a micro pen to do the black lining? Matthew |

The Confederates used a lot of "natural" leather due to lack of black dyes as the Unpleasantness progressed. |

War in 15mm, thank you for your kind words. It may sound daft but I feel at home painting these little fella's, maybe its down to the amount I've already painted! and there's more to come. Flashman14, I started collecting Dixon over twenty years ago, which kind of shows my age! They were the figures that brought the ACW to life for me, and my painting style seems to suit them. 45thdiv, I think the natural colour leather works well with rebs, I've used here and there with my Rebs to try and add abit more variety, and as Shagnasty said as the war dragged on it would of become more commen place. As for using a micro pen, I've never tried it. I'm abit old fashioned in my painting. Shagnasty, I've tried to mix in the natural leather with my infantry as well just to add to the overall appearance of my war weary Reb's. Frederick, thank you also for your kind words. Athelwulf, I'm not sure my work is quite up to Wow standard but thank you also. So guys, thank you all for your feedback. It means a lot that people are willing to take the time to look and to reply! It all helps to keep me focused, which at times isn't easy! So thanks again thanks for cheers Russ |

The "sins of the sculptor"? I bought Dixon years ago and eventually went away from them, for their unrealistic proportions. But they have a style and flair of their own very much like you have a flair for painting them very well, Bracken! |

nicely done Dixon have a dynamic all of their own and given a bit of flair in their painting are a lively looking bunch.though I must say the horses eyes are more than a bit startling.. |

Thanks FireZouave, i know Dixon don't appeal to everyone but I think they are cracking little figures! I'm alittle bit of a fan but how else could you describe me having a few hundred figures already painted and almost the same again that I'm stripping and repainting! Thank you again for your kind words in regards of me having a flare for painting them! I'm not sure I would call it a flare, I'd call it the value of a very talented sculpter! I'm not one for bigging myself up. My wife says I'm to modest, I call it honesty. Thanks Cardinal, I've admired your work for a long time now. Your talent with plastics is a true inspiration, I'm not sure I managed the look very well on the horses eyes, its maybe a bit too artistic! I tried to get a wild gleem as if they were straining at the reins while being caught up in the charge! So thanks for all the feedback, this is why I love TMP its the people that make it! So thanks again cheers Russ |
