I am looking for alternative to the FFG X-wing bases. What does other folks use? Any 'aftermarket' ones? Thanks!

Keep in mind that only the original FFG bases are tournament legal. So don't throw out the originals in case you ever find yourself wanting to do a tournament. LITKO also makes some X-Wing bases, but I haven't seen them. |

Omni stands are great and allow you with the ball attachment to adjust the altitude of the fighter. I have made some on my own for larger ships before the current ones were released. I used acrylic laser cut stands and attached telescopic antenna mounts that were counter sunk into the bottom. Cost was more then what you can buy from CorSecEng or others on line however. My theory is that the draconian wording of the tournament rules is simple a carry over from FFG"s card games. I have not come across any report of them being enforced in reality. So far, I haven't met any tournament organisers, myself included, who would not allow properly sized 3rd party stands and templates to be used. And I'm certainly not going to spend any time checking players card sleeves to see if they have reproduction cards or originals. CorSec ones are fine. Even at the big Regional Tournament at FFG game center this month, third party templates were used. |

Bases and templates might be justifiable for exclusion. However, FFGs own components have more variation them mine. You stick an FFG range ruler next to mine and it will be different. Of course flipping it over will show you that there is almost a mm of variation on either side of the ruler. I'd bet some of the higher level players know this and can judge distances well enough to take advantage of it. it is up the the customer but I don't think anyone will have much trouble till they reach the top levels. Just make sure you check with the TOs before you head to a tourny. Don't want any surprises and it's nice to have time to debate your case. |

The FFG firing templates are cut to a variety of different lengths, with shortages ranging up to .5mm And some of them have mismatched printing between the two sides. |

Ditto with the movement templates. I just grabbed a few Straight 5's. They were all slightly different lengths. The longest was 20mm, the shortest was 19mm. |

I also like that the fittings for the CorSec Engineering Omni Stands thread right into the flight stand holes for the MicroMachines ships! No drilling or glue required! If you intend to utilize your old MicroMachines collection for X-Wing, I highly recommend the CorSec Engineering bases. |

Interesting note on the threading -- does it match the d'Agostini screw holes too? I have one of the Neimoidian Shuttles. Also a question on mounting ships in general: would it work well to just attach a small magnet directly to the underside of the ship and just stack that on top of the post? Budget is super-tight right now, and buckets of magnets are dirt cheap on dx.com/s/magnets (and free shipping if you're willing to wait for the slow boat). |
