Looks great. The model geek in me almost likes seeing preprint conversion work than the finished model.

That said, post pics after you paint it too!

gorgarrak15 May 2013 10:51 a.m. PST

Fantastic, Do you use a Zimmerit tool or just a mini screwdriver?

Mike

PiersBrand15 May 2013 11:44 a.m. PST

I use the edge of a CD case to do the zimmerit pattern.

Cornelius15 May 2013 12:07 p.m. PST

Brilliant – I would not have thought of a CD case

Abwehrschlacht15 May 2013 2:38 p.m. PST

Excellent work Piers, really nice model!

Very nice indeed. With your upgrading it now holds its own against any Revell or Dragon kit.

I too look forward to seeing it painted!

As an aside, in the Battlegroup Kursk book, earlier marks of the Stug are available. Would these few oldies have been repainted or would they still be in their panzer grey?
Thanks!

PiersBrand31 May 2013 4:45 p.m. PST

Well it got its first coat of paint…

Those are coming on nicely .They should look cracking when you have finished them.

As regards older marks , the Germans tended to paint cammo on top of the Grey usually the yellow colour but On saying this if I was doing a particular vehicle I would try and find some picture reference to use as a guide first.

eptingmike03 Jun 2013 8:54 a.m. PST

Any toughts on where to look for some pics of potential older versions of the time? Did a Google search and didn't have any luck. My instinct is that these would have been back-line units and perhaps not in a time or place to be photographed…thoughts?

mysteron04 Jun 2013 1:58 a.m. PST

I must admit I have drawn blanks on camo early Stugs. I dare say these would be so few in numbers that possibly they weren't captured on film but probably more in numbers than the KV2 which is also in the list. If it was me I would be tempted to leave them perhaps in grey with the remnants of the white winter camo.

All StuG C & Ds I have seen late-war have been in yellow.

Got pics of one with zimmerit and side skirts…

mysteron04 Jun 2013 6:47 a.m. PST

There you are Piers to the Rescue :)

Those Stugs of yours will be stunning when finished. Can you kindly place some pictures on here sometime when they are done ? I know you have plenty of other projects on the go as well :)

eptingmike04 Jun 2013 9:51 a.m. PST

@PiersBrand,
Any chance you could pass on where you saw those photos? I would love to see them…obviously!
As an aside, I should have Battlegroup Overlord waiting on my stoop when I get home today!
All the best
Mike

Piers,
One question i always wanted to ask you-
Are you making (cutting) your vehicle bases or buying them in bulk from somewhere?

Thanks
Steve

PiersBrand19 Jun 2013 2:59 p.m. PST

Steve,

I make my own out of 1.5mm plasticard.

The black plastic is nicer as it comes with a matt side thats easy to apply sand too and if the sides do shed paint the black aint so noticable, but always best to lightly score one side for ease of attaching basing materials.

SGusky21 Jun 2013 9:37 a.m. PST

Thanks Piers
very inspirational work!

PiersBrand29 Jul 2013 3:18 p.m. PST

Almost there…

mysteron30 Jul 2013 2:24 a.m. PST

Those are looking excellent .I don't think anyone has asked this before but what have you used to represent the concrete. I don't think its green stuff with it being white so I am guessing its one of the finer forms of Milliput ?

Very Well Done!

historygamer30 Jul 2013 2:36 p.m. PST

Curious what painted you are using. Do you have a blog site detailing your steps? Very nice. :-)

PiersBrand30 Jul 2013 2:51 p.m. PST

I have a blog here…

ww20mm.blogspot.ie

But a better place for my WIP shots is my build thread over on The Guild;

Mysteron, the concrete is Miliput. Better texture to it for this sort of thing in my view and it chips like concrete when dry!

historygamer31 Jul 2013 9:22 a.m. PST

What rules do you use?

PiersBrand31 Jul 2013 9:46 a.m. PST

Battlegroup series of rules.

picture

Though to be honest about it… I work on them with Warwick Kinrade!

historygamer01 Aug 2013 3:28 p.m. PST

There are one to one scale rules, correct? There is also Battlegroup Panzer grenadiers too.

Looked at the other website, but didn't see anything other than a message site. Where should I look there?

PiersBrand01 Aug 2013 4:13 p.m. PST

Battlegroup Kursk and Battlegroup Overlord are 1 – 1 .

Best bet might be to look round the Battlegroup forum on The Guild;

link

Or the Ironfist Publishing site;

ironfistpublishing.com

Some of the AARs on The Guild forum will give you a flavour of things and feel free to ask me any questions.
