Hi all, I wanted to put up a pew pics of my 3mm ACW Diorama/wargame hybrid project I've been working on. The whole Idea is for it all to work together as a diorama or as either units or terrain features in a game. Here are some of the earlier planning pics. I placed out the regiments and the artillery battery and then designed around them.
I was originally planning on having the stream run along the edge of the diorama and have the skirmishers fighting along that. But it was too complicated so I just made it perpendicular to the line. You can see that in the next phase, which also shows the new trees I'm using. I'm drilling into the 60mm squares and then hot gluing the trees into place. The original flocking has this weird wire in it so I'm tearing it out and then reflocking. The trees may look large, but thats just because they're normal size! The tallest one is only 90 scale feet high, so nothing outrageous at all. Bear in mind that since the ground scale is 1:1 in this picture that the trees have to be 1:1 as well!
I think the last one has some good lighting! The flags will also all be replaced by the time I'm done. Before anyone asks yes, the desk is ok! |

Excellent, especially the troops and terrain in the last photo. |

Woof, major spelling errors in my first post! Anyways, glad you guys liked them! I'm hoping to have this one and the Union done this weekend with terrain between their skirmish lines that'll make it all into one complete diorama and two armies. I think it'll come out pretty well. The whole idea is that they'll look equally good ina display case as a conversation starter and out on the wargames table. I'm going to be adding a few more trees to the artillery bases and along the skirmish line to break it up even more and add some more naturalness to it. Speaking of the skirmish line- in the one pic you can see where I placed the reserve skirmish line in front of a regiment that's feeding the skirmish line. This was why I was asking all the questions about skirmish lines the other day. When I do the Napoleonics the skirmish line will be two men deep, since they fought in teams. |
