The weapons they made in their movies are amazing!.

"this action epic follows an elite crime-fighting unit in the court of the Chinese emperor which relies on flying swords to defeat their enemies! During the Manchurian ruled Qing Dynasty, Emperor Yong Zheng established a secret assassination squad known as the Guillotines to eliminate all who opposed him. Once heavily favoured by the Emperor, the Guillotines are deemed expendable once Emperor Qian Long ascends to the throne and adopts Western ideas and technology. To consolidate his power under a new regime, the Emperor continues to use the Guillotines to persecute the conquered Han Chinese in a reign of terror and oppression."

Back in 1974, the Shaw Brothers gave us "The Flying Guillotine", which was pretty cool in its own way.

In this movie, the flying guillotine is a circular set of blades with a flat hood attached; a long chain is attached to the blades. The assassin throws the guillotine onto the head of his victim from a distance (this takes some skill), like throwing a frisbee. The hood covers the head while the blades drop around the neck. The assassin then quickly pulls the chain to contract the blades.

I have a copy of the restored version on this movie on DVD. The liner notes admit that no-one living today knows what the REAL flying guillotine looked like, because its secret was so well kept! That means film producers can do some imaginative things with the flying guillotine.

The Flying Guillotine made its return in The Heroic Trio (dir. Johnny To, 1993), in the hands of villain Anthony Wong.

Mythbusters did the flying guillotine a few years back, trying to duplicate the 1974 movie.

The Flying Guillotine was THE movie you had to see in my neighborhood to have any street cred. Let's just say I had A LOT of street cred.

Back in the seventies, our local paper billed the movie as Master of the Flying Gelatine
