I've looked on the old threads, and one answer still eludes:

When commercial painting services quote a price per figure, that's only the painting, right? The web sites I've seen don't say, but I assume the client must provide the figures. Am I right about that?

Besides that, I'm finding foot figure paint jobs ranging from $1.60 USD to $3.00 USD, and mounted figures/cannon going for between $3 USD and 5$ USD, Not counting the figure?

Is that typical?

Generally, yes.

The web sites I've seen don't say, but I assume the client must provide the figures. Am I right about that?

Usually. The exceptions are painting services which have direct relations with particular manufacturers, or in some cases work directly with a single manufacturer.

I'd say "it depends".
Depending upon the scale chosen the painter may include the cost of the figure, going with his/her preferred range because he/she knows they can do a good job with that range.

Everything I get from the three 6mm painters includes figure cost and basing.

If in doubt, ask.

There are a few places that sell painted figures from a list of available figures, but for contract work the rule of thumb is that you supply the figure.

Tyler32615 May 2013 5:07 a.m. PST

I have done painting for quite a few clients. Sometimes I provide the figures and sometimes they do. It does affect the cost 'depending' on how the figures are provided.

Pricing almost NEVER includes the cost of figure. That is only when the service is selling per-painted units.

Fonzie15 May 2013 6:52 a.m. PST

At MMPS the price includes the figure but that is because we specialize in Ready-Made, Painted units and we (normally) do not do commissions. I don't think there are many commission painting services out there that include figures in their price.

When I did contract painting the price was you providing the casting and included only the painting..it was 3.50 for a 25mm inf and 5 for cav including the horse..but that was a long time back..at cons we sold already painted units and included a wholesale price of the fig in the price of the unit

Looks to me like the typical painting fee for 15mm comes to between $1.50 USD and $3.00 USD per foot figure, with the mounted figures going for about double that. It's a wide range, but does it seem typical?

79thPA Supporting Member of TMP15 May 2013 11:52 a.m. PST

Yes, it does.

For this price You probably get figures not properly painted but just marked with main colors.

Widowson15 May 2013 4:04 p.m. PST

Wow! What do well-painted 15mm figures go for? I ask because I'll gladly do that, at least until I get proper employment.

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP15 May 2013 11:05 p.m. PST

Honestly, I am not an expert. I want to know this too..
but at first glance it seems, that price for footman, painted with medium quality, begin at 5 pound sterlings and for cavalryman between 10, 15 and 25 pound sterlings.
wargames-den.co.uk/index.asp
But this is full price.. cost for figures and basing included.

Widowson15 May 2013 11:12 p.m. PST

Sho,

Is that 15mm? Seems way high, but what do I know? I could not find painted figs on order on that site, but I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed.

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP15 May 2013 11:46 p.m. PST

You do not find painted figures there?
All this site are dedicated for selling painted figures. :)
For example Polish troops..
wargames-den.co.uk/15mm-napoleonic-polish-line-infantry-1810-1813-ab-24-figures-227-p.asp
or Napoleon..
wargames-den.co.uk/15mm-napoleonic-emperor-napoleon-1-ab-figure-135-p.asp

But I understand, after I find Your galleries, that You don't want to buy painted figures, but to sell..

These are top end figures and rather well painted so I'd say that these represent the maximum. A basic wargames standard would probably be less than £2.00 GBP, or a bit more for Napoleonics.

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP17 May 2013 4:12 a.m. PST

Very well. Help us a bit more. :)
If "rather well painted top end figure, that represent the maximum" (Napoleon on right) cost £20.00 GBP.. then how much must be asked for Napoleon on left?

1st502Strike Supporting Member of TMP17 May 2013 12:56 p.m. PST

Sho Boki

The figure on the left is a very well painted high end figure as well and could also fetch £20.00 GBP. It depends on how much potential buyers are willing to pay and finding the right buyer. This could take a while in this market as it seems rather soft to me right now.

Regards, Bill

Widowson17 May 2013 7:14 p.m. PST

Is that a 15mm figure? 20 pounds? Wow.

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP23 May 2013 4:45 a.m. PST

This is normal 18mm figure, yes.
In 1:100 scale this Napoleon will be 180cm tall (actually was 169cm).

Wargames Den25 May 2013 7:10 a.m. PST

Hi Chaps,

The figures I sell on my website all include the price of the castings, painting, basing, flags the lot.

I have over 10,000 AB 15mm castings in stock and so when it comes to commission work I can quote with or without the casting.
