I'm putting together some plastic Reb units and needed some painting tips. 1) Did corporals and sergeants where chevrons on their sleeves? If so, what color where they typically? 2) Did any soldiers or officers wear any markings to simbolize how many years that had served (similar to how modern law enforcement officers wear a star for every 5 years of service)? Cheers. |

1) Yes, just like the Federal troops. They were branch of service color ( inf- lt blue, cav- yellow, arty- red) or black. 2) These were almost all volunteers who were going to be out as soon as the war was over. It only lasted 4 years. |

Gracias shag. I thought some of the officers who had been in the Union army pre-war might have carried some sign of service. Appreciate it. Edit: apologize for not poosting this in ACW forum. |

Well that was the theory at least
however there is plenty of documentation showing chevron colors other than the prescribed. The Army of Tennessee have plenty of examples of black chevrons, as well as some Texas units
. You can go with blue, black, for infantry
