What rules are most 20mm Napoleonic gamers using?..I am about to start painting my 20mm figs and need an idea of unit sizes French battalions 12 men like empire or 36 like GdB..Cav 12 manreg or 36 or something different..

I use 20mm and 1/72 Naps. I use my favorite rules Field of Battle. Each unit is a battalion and i use 4 stands of 3 men each. Cav is 3-4 stands of 2 figs each. Great set of rules!

Thanks,

John

If you are aiming to collect both sides then I guess you are free to choose which rules you like the best, or you could base in such a way that you can play many different sets. For what it's worth I use figures that are nominally 18mm but some are certainly 19 if not 20mm. I have 18 figure battalions.

I recently purchased a crap load of painted 1/72 and I plan on using Volley and Bayonet (brigade stands w/12 infantry to the stand). Do you want to commands corps or do you want to command a brigade or two?

Division..2 or three brigades..was using empire so has 12 man batt and 12 man cav reg..then we cut the ratios to 1-30 so it became 24 each..getting back into it so was looking at options..also used 25mm base sizes…looking at GdB seriously for now

In general, I think it's fine to use the 25mm scale for basing & movement etc in most rules.

For many years I've used a variant on the old WRG rules called ELAN with my large 1/72 Nap forces.
You can fight a brigade a side or multi-player several Corps battles. Here's photos from our Waterloo:

ELAN are now free: a good price in anyone's books.

Not as dense as some, not as fast play as others but surely worth a look.
