Yes, the 1809 Italian front has some very good scenarios for wargames. Interesting battles, and since the forces are limited you can get the whole battle on a table much easier than many other Napoleonic theatres.

Sacile is a very interesting battle, and between the meeting engagement the previous day and the numerous "what if" factors affecting reinforcements is very amenable to gaming – probably the best of the 1809 Italian campaign.

Greetings

As the OOB is sourced from Wikipedia – which omits the information from Gill's Thunder on the Danube – I am not sure this information is complete.

TMP poster Gonsalvo ran this scenario quite successfully at Historicon 2010, IIRC. I played in it and it was a blast. He has a whole 1809 scenario booklet for Piquet's Field of Battle, in which Sacile is included.

Much as I like Gill, I really must recommend 'Prince Eugene at War' by Robert Epstein as a study of the 1809 Campaign in Italy.

I wholeheartedly agree w/the RAF man guy type person!

I agree re: Epstein's book, although Gill certainly gives a much more detailed OOB's (and maps).

The Sacile game at Historicon 2010 was one of my favorite convention games of all time; it came completely down to the wire, and both sides could easily have won. G;ad you enjoyed it, Cimmerian! Sacile usually gives a good, close action with most rules sets. Lots of "what if's" that could be tried out a s well.
