The MCL is A 10 wheel semitrailer mounting four power-operated rocket launchers, each carrying 60 x122mm rockets in three blocks of 20 rockets each. The system can fire Roketsan 122mm TR-122 rockets fitted with a high explosive (HE) warhead activated by a point detonating fuze or Roketsan TRB-122 rockets fitted with HE steel ball warhead activated by a proximity fuze. The maximum range is being quoted as 40km, with a minimum range of 16km…

words fail me, but I'm tempted to paraphrase someone wise "They have become death, the destroyer of worlds."

One would think for survival ability a six vehicle battery would be a better choice? Give it to Sudo-Euro trash arms dealers to make a buck off some defense minister who's last experience with anything military was playing chess with camels painted black and white. A set of BM-21s with advanced targeting and fire control would be much more better choice.

It would be a better chemical warhead saturation bombardment system.

I was distracted from my contemplation of saturation death by the dainty silver tea pot being offered.

Apparently, a major concern for them is how much manpower they save this way.

Never mind the quality, feel the width!

Yeah, the less people you need to train the better I would think.

Manflesh14 May 2013 5:24 a.m. PST

I reckon they could have fitted a couple more on there easily. They need to channel their inner orks.

I would agree, and find the manpower argument odd. What difference would a few extra drivers make? You'd still be loading the same number of tubes.

Looks like something off of the old G.I. Joe cartoons.

What is the advantage of having them all on a giant trailer? I would have thought the savings of only one tractor vehicle would be offset by losses in offroad mobility.

CEP is ~1% of the range so at maximum range of 30,000 meters, 50% of the rounds will land in a 300m radius circle.

I assume you can independently aim each of the three boxes so a full sheaf could possibly cover a mile long arc. That could be disconcerting to infantry heavy armies.

CorpCommander14 May 2013 8:56 a.m. PST

The advantage is that the one vehicle can have a better fire control system that would be impractical on a smaller vehicle. I assume.

How about a battery of 6 of these though!? That would be something!

Remember that arab armies don't have an NCO corp like western armies do… TMP link

Long story short they're built on the soviet model using a "work culture" that values hording information rather than disseminating it…

A lieutenant or captain is going to be commanding EACH of these and that gets real expensive REAL quick, both in finances AND in terms of finding educated officers to man them. If need an officer to command each gun in the battery, why not save time and put 'em on one chassis and slave them together.

Until you need to do maintenance. Then you need every hand you can get. I've been 'borrowed' to do some electrical maintenance, and I was a Navy yeoman (that's spoken "clerk" to the civilians!)

Deadone14 May 2013 3:51 p.m. PST

I agree with BigNickR.

Plus Arab armies are generally for show only with limited real ability, and often reliant on non-Arab "advisors" for any real capability.

The shinier the toy, the more likely some Arab sheikh, tyrant or corrupt politicians is to buy a few hundred.
