I think it would be good to consider the rest of the "Great Powers" of 1910. That is: Austro-Hungarian Empire Russia Ottoman Empire Italy And why The Netherlands and Spain are not traditionally included in the list is beyond me. OK by 1910 Spain was rather weak. I am very excite by the possibility of your Moonmen! |

Well, now this is just getting silly. |
| 28mmMan | 13 May 2013 1:49 p.m. PST |
How so? The designs? Or the options as in "it is silly not to jump on board? The Venusians are odd I will grant you lol. |
| blooddave | 13 May 2013 1:58 p.m. PST |
I much prefer hard sci-fi. I was willing to go with a War of the Worlds continuation, (the Martians come back after their initial defeat), but now moon men and Venus? It's moved out of Sci-Fi and firmly into Pulp / Horror. The figures look great, and I'm sure, for some people, it's right up their alley. But it's not for me. Not anymore. |
| 28mmMan | 13 May 2013 2:34 p.m. PST |
Gotcha gotcha! Can't blame them for pushing a niche market until it bursts though ;) |
| deflatermouse | 13 May 2013 2:34 p.m. PST |
Dammit!! I was gonna call Moon too. I suppose I'll have to settle for Mars. |
| tsofian | 13 May 2013 4:10 p.m. PST |
There are very few hard science-science fiction games out there. |

These are dark days indeed, I say. the US is in Mexico, Canada is in the US, Britian is in the caribean, and some bloody way or other, Germany and France have been teleported to south america!
.and HOLY MOTHER OF GOD, WHAT IS THAT THING COMING FROM VENUS!? P
p
.PURGE. BURN. anyways, I'm happy to see this suceed, as I love wierd wars in 15mm, and along with my monsters from Fantasy Flight, I can see this turning into a "Humanity VS absolutley everything setting" Bring on the Retro Grim Dark. The Day that ClockWorks Goblins Incoming Werewolves and Nighthaunters are fighting Martians, I will be a happy man. |

For some reason, some folk think Martians are hard science fiction? Is a flat Earth, hollow Earth or a Earth-centric solar system also hard science now? Just because there have been more movies and TV shows about aliens coming from Mars DOES NOT MAKE IT SCIENCE! |
JammerMan | 13 May 2013 4:54 p.m. PST |
Its about as hard SF as anything else today, unless you are talking space station or supply rockets to Space Station because thats all that is going on now. |
| Curufea | 13 May 2013 5:00 p.m. PST |
That's my point – Martians are EXACTLY as rubbery science as Venusians or Moonmen. |
| TheRatGod | 13 May 2013 5:01 p.m. PST |
not sure what you consider hard scifi to be? i mean when most think scifi they think aliens |
| Curufea | 13 May 2013 5:05 p.m. PST |
To me, the first sign of something not being hard Sci-Fi is aliens invading Earth. That should be the first trigger for anyone to think "hmm, this is a bit narrative serving, rather than serving science" Even before you get to the credentials of the writer as a scientist, how much research they've done, the plausability of their evolutionary theories regarding alien life forms, or any particular trend in modern theory they're extrapolating into a story. |

I am quite sure blooddave noted hard science fiction only in that he preferred that setting and not that the Martians were hard science, he had accepted the Martians against his hard science nature but the rest was more than he wanted to juggle. Hard science is fairly rare but I think we all appreciate quality hard science gaming/miniatures where we can find it :) |
JammerMan | 13 May 2013 6:03 p.m. PST |
Key word in all of this is FICTION
.just have some fun. |

Just to be shameless hive queen and country is hard science science fiction In terms of research I think we can stand up to any other game on the market |

Hive Queen and Country is bloody badass, so I agree, lol. |

Just watched the gameplay video, and I'm leaning towards not backing. Curious as to what others opinions were of the video. Thanks, - J |

I liked the video a lot and the game looks fun to me. From all the stuff I have read about the system the bits they showed were just a tiny part of the overall game. They used no hidden movement at all, for example. I have pretty much complete faith in Rick Priestly and his cohorts. They are well established and very talented game designers. Obviously your mileage may vary

I dont see how Martians are any more 'hard scifi' than moon men or venusians. Isnt mars a simiar size to the moon anyway (both 1/3 size earth)? |

wow amazed canada is even mentioned :D! very cool stuff man look forward to what you will be releasing :)! |

@ Blood Dave These were part of the fiction as well. The Lunars are a Bug Race the Martians took as slave at one time. Keven J Anderson wrote the Martian War which covers a lot of this, in his book the 2nd Invasion never occurred though. But lots of info on Moon and Mars. The great thing is you only have to use what you like, I was looking at a few tweaks to let them fit in other years as well. Lee |
| Lfseeney | 15 May 2013 11:40 a.m. PST |
@ Jholen That was just the basic turn stuff, Most units have a few special rules, there is Hidden and Blip Movement for the humans. Also there is Air Power coming. Looking over the Force Lists they have shown there will be a lot of options to consider when moving and attacking. Some units have Support which can help them move, others Like the Tesla Tank Build a charge and can be fired at different levels of attack. Even the TriPods can Sweep or Focus attacks, depending on the target. I think there is more meat than we have seen and more to come, also the Move twice has some nice concepts. I was hoping for more reaction stuff, and that may still be in the game, just have to wait to see. The models are looking great to me, so IF I bail on the rules I will still use them and have fun. But it is not for every one, but I think it is for me. Lee
