Looking for a set that covers Ireland, League of Augsburg, WSS and GNW. I currently have DBR but am seeking a more period feel. Also have BP but just can't seem to get into it. Need a set that's simple to learn, has no rebasing of my 15mm DBR figures and no/minimal order writing. Want to refight the big battles as well as do fictional encounters between historical opponents. I've read the threads on here on both (Maurice would have no rebasing). Both are pricey (plus postage to ASIA) so looking for folks' thoughts before taking the plunge. |

BLB without question and I have played both. |

SN – what tips the balance in favour of BLB? Top name btw – have a few 'acquaintances' here in Hong Kong who are awarded that monicker! |

Piquet Field Of Battle is also a nice alternative but BLB definitely has best specific 'period flavour' as such |

I can't speak for BLB. Maurice is a great game. I love it. However it plays best as a two-player game with relatively limited forces – typically a dozen or so infantry and cavalry and is not particularly easy to run as a multi-player game (in my opinion). But you should be able to use the army characteristics to add sufficient period flavour. |

No rebasing is necessary with BLB. It has a simple but fun system and gives you a period feel. It also has specific chapters on how to made adjustments for the League of Augsburg, GNW, etc. My preference is for BLB but our group plays both. Both systems have a very supportive forum if you have any questions. |

I really like BLB, I use it for the Great Northern War and love the period flavor. However, to be fair, I've never played Maurice. |

Haven't played BLB and I quite like Maurice, declarations out of the way, I couldn't see myself using Maurice for GNW or WSS. Maurice is a great little paper, rock, scissors game and campaign system for 7yw noobs and ImagiNation enthusiasts, a jolly and raucous jaunt. If you have a good understanding of the GNW and want to spend the time modifying the rules you could make it work but personally I dont see the point. Worth considering, I have recently received the 2nd edition of Ga Pa, rules written specifically for the GNW and they seem quite promising. As an aside I have always thought of the GNW/Baltic as a great setting for a iNation campaign regards dave |

I suppose it all comes down to the compromise of period flavour versus how many rule sets one is prepared to learn. DBR has always been a favourite because of its versitality. I'm aware of GaPa but can't see myself buying it simply for one war. I heard that 1st Ed BLB was a bit obtuse and contradictory. Has this problem been ironed out in 2nd Ed? How easy would it adapt to SYW? At present I have 15mm armies for Wars of LoA, WSS & SYW in India. The 6mm Baccus GNW range is alluring. |

Ga Pa 2nd edition is southern sector freindly and could now be said to cover the WSS from Finland to Espanol. I like to think of the GNW starting when everyone else had decided enough was enough, 1714-ish, and decided to pack it in. Those Baltic types just couldn't help themselves and had to drag it out for another 7 years, I blame it on the Wodka Be interested to know what you think of BLB JC as I have it on my (non urgent)shopping list. regards dave |

Justin, All of the issues with BLB v1 have been ironed out and BLB v2 is very good. I've been thinking of how to adapt it to SYW and I think you could with some simple modifications but what I'd do is join the BLB forum and start up the conversation there. You'll find there's a great group of people who could help. |
