Hello All,

I've been slowly building a collection of figures to do zombie conversions in 1/72 and finally got to do a couple:
link

So you say…"Why the heck would you do this in 1/72 when there is so much ready-made stuff in 15mm to facilitate the demise of your eyesight?"

Well…

1. I hate the "base bump" (TM) that is left when mounting them on standardized bases. Since all current runs of 15mm for zed gaming are metal, I opted out. It is too much effort to take off the integrated bases cast on the figures. Sure, you can hid it, but I just don't want it there at all.

2. There are many 1/72s in plastic. I am digging the plastic. It is so easy to cut and swap out pieces! There is almost no mess too.
I am only able to work inside my small home at weird time increments when my wife and toddler son are asleep. Also, I need the ability to collapse and hide everything in a short time window. That is difficulty with a pile of metal dust and shavings (I like to modify stuff).

3. Some of my earliest memories of figures are the Airfix and Atlantic guys that I had as a kid….ahhhh nostalgia. :-)

Those look great! But just in case you weren't aware and just for variety's sake make sure to check out Elheim's wonderful selection of metal 1/72 scale zombies. They're quite nice.

They look very good.

Oh yeah, that one too.

Nice stuff. I'm strictly 6mm and 28mm…. but that's nice stuff!

Look great. Lots of model railroad buildings that would be close enough scale wise too. Not sure about cars an trucks though, are there 1/72 scale cars and trucks, aside from military stuff?

I might consider 1/72 zombies if there is. Thy look great btw.

Really nice work……those are Caesar SAS figs first ?
What make are the others?
Great use for those masked troops-gives me use for my half a box that I still have kicking about!!!

Really lovely done minis, I mean that, so when's the next game?

dglennjr12 May 2013 6:44 a.m. PST

I use 20mm-1/72nd for all of my modern, 80's & vietnam skirmish gaming.

My current project is changing over from 28mm Zombie miniatures and terrain to 20mm-1/72nd miniatures and terrain, to take advantage of a lot of the miniatures and terrain that I already have.

The only thing 'new' that I have to paint up are the zombies and to create some modern U.S. city buildings and such.

Most of the zombie horde is from the Twilight Creation's, "Zombies!!!" game. I started with a 'bag O'zombies' (100 males) and a 'bag O'babes' (100 females). However, I've added some of Elheim's metal zombies and survivor figures and will add some additional plastic ones too.

For vehicles, simply use the appropriate matchbox and hotwheels style cars, pickups, jeeps, etc. There are plenty out there that are close to 1/72nd scale and look great with 20mm figures. (I use a lot of the 1950's-1960's car models for my Vietnam and 80's Carribean games.)

Hope that helps.

Elheim have nice police figures that I bought.I also used Warsaw Pact Soviets in NBC suits that make nice corporate "Hazmat" teams, painted in white suits.

Thank for the complements. :-)

The sets used are as follows:
Caesar SAS
Preiser train depot figures
Revelle (IIRC) Nato pilots and ground crews.

Gamerarchetect: I'd love to see the US buildings as this is my current snag.

BTW: Caeser has a modern civis set in the pipe; no release date yet.
I have high hopes for easy zombification!

Now I don't know wether to wait for Mod Civilians or not………..but you can't have too many Zed's, right?

I like the Zombie Nun :-D

geekygamer26 May 2013 9:17 p.m. PST

The nun was the tipping point for me picking up Caesar's WWII Underground Resisters set. There were other usable figs in the set too; the two zeds following the nun are comversions fromthat same set.

Hello all,

I painted another 5 zeds (Z10-Z14).

Caesar 1/72 scale Modern Zombies are out now…….

Really enjoyed viewing these excellent conversions. Up 1/72nd!

As for terrain, yes "Lots of model railroad buildings that would be close enough scale wise too", but British outline model railways are 1/76 (20mm), so nearer than US and Continental European(1/87).

In the UK you can get buildings in a variety of periods and media (including download and print kits (easily rescaled),

Vehicles come in everything from plastic and whitemetal kits to some very good quality diecast.
