I would be grateful for any recommendation on what miniatures that can be used to represent these. Thanks! |

Old Glory25s makes a landing boat with a marine crew pack as well as a naval landing party pack. Since one of OG's specialties is not having pictures of their product you will need to call or email and see exactly what you get in the packs. |

Much more helpful than OG's site but there are still no pictures of the marines or sailors. Whose site has the pics? It will come in handy in the future. Thanks. |

Thanks for the tip 79th PA, I thought I had been through the OG lists but hadn't seen that one. Did the US Marines or navy types change uniforms significantly between the MAW and the ACW? Regards, Rob. |

To me, the most obvious difference is that both services had different headgear in each war. The marines simply had different hats and a different colored/cut uniform in each war. A sailor uniform is pretty generic across the ages but the Mex-Am sailors wore Sennett hats as a uniform hat while ACW sailors wore a soft cap (don't know what it was called). However you still see a few Sennett hats in ACW photos. That said, I'd be more comfortable using a Mex-Am sailor as a ACW sailor than I would be using a Mex-Am marine as an ACW marine. |

Thanks for your comments and suggestions. I have the OG stuff and it is unfortunately rather awful
The 1st Corps sculpts are a bit dated but have a nice uniform with the characteristic crossbelts. I guess the only available option is a conversion with the aim at arriving at something like these inspiring paintings by Don Troiani: link link |

Yes, there was significant chnage between the MAW and the ACW for Marine uniforms. I THINK you can use US Army troops for Marines in the MAW with the uniforms being different colors. You can use any Frock coat/kepi wearing troops from the ACW for US Marines. The frock was a bit longer for Marines than army, but not too much and the Marines did on occasion wear their bayonet on their waist belt rather than on the baldric. |

US Marines also wore a white cross belt with a center brass piece in middle. But other than that they looked like regular US Soldiers. |

Well, the challenge is to find miniatures who has something that looks similar to those crossbelts. British infantry 1830-1840 looks fairly similar to the MAW Marines, I might try that

Marines in the ACW wore frock coats, sack coats and kepis. All you have to do is paint the white crossbelts and put red trim on their standing collar. |

I've never seen a sack coat pitured or mentioned being used by US Marines. Frock coats only. |

I would think that these Confederates could be "Galvanized" into U.S. Marines rather easily? Figure Pack ACW 31: link |

DN Jackson, I've seen a picture of US Marines in sack coats with white cross belts. I was surprised when I saw it myself! I'll see if I can find the pic! |
