Contacted Newline Designs to see when they would get a restock of the Mongrel Minis line as they seems to be running low, particularly of the Brits and Sean tells me they have been unable to contact the owner for 11 months and have no prospect of getting anymore at the moment. I thought Newline owned the range, but I presume Frank Hammond still owns them?! It would be a shame if this range disappeared as without them there are no ranges of cold war era figures apart from the Eureka US and Soviets in NBC gear and the MoFo Falklands Brits. Maybe someone else could shed some light on this? |

Frank hasn't owned them for years. I think they eventually passed into the ownership of someone in the States. |

Yup, went to the US ages ago (bought by the guy who owns Pontoonier and Badger Miniatures or something like that?). Anyway, it died on its ass thereafter, despite some initial promises of things like more 1960's Congo range. Shame but plenty of other great stuff out there to buy. |

Actually there isn't much cold war era stuff out there. That's the point. The ranges are actually very good. The Soviets in particular. Newline are turning away orders they would love to fill, so there is still a market for it. |

Yup who ever owns it lost my business a while ago. I was all set to do a Cold War gone hot US Marines vs Soviet Marines in Nodthern Getmany. So now I'm moving into 20mm. |

Thanks for the warning. A couple of packs on my 'buy eventually' list were already gone, but I grabbed the rest right away just in case
It's a shame a good range is dwindling away like this, especially with 28mm cold war being such a niche market. |

The ranges are great but if the 'new' owner doesn't want to sell anything then there is little you can do. If you do a search for Mongrel Miniatures on here you will see that this has been going on for years now and nothing has changed in that time. The figures are getting harder to obtain, nothing new has come out from Mongrel (that I know of) since the new chap bought the ranges and everyone thinks its a massive shame and waste of a good range of minis. I also agree that there is n't much cold war era stuff out there in 28mm. I think I remember hearing somewhere that the new owner is quite well off and clearly doesn't need to make any money out of selling the ranges he acquired from Frank all those years ago. My gripe is why didn't he just say that the range would no longer be available from the start? Also I bought some of the Congo mercenaries but don't have any opposition for them to go up against. That does get me annoyed! |

Congo opponents can be had from Assault Group, Eureka and Brittania. |

Von Paulus: Badger Games out of Wisconsin bought them – I called and talked with the owner a while ago – he never sent me the PAYPAL invoice for my order
.it's a bloody shame that Mongrel is going down the tubes. Your comment on 'quite well off' helps add some context to the issue

Saltflats – will check out Eureka and Brittania. I suspect TAG will be too big compared to the Mongrel stuff. Many thanks. Lobsterback – Badger Games/Pontoonier still seem to attend conventions in the US but he still doesn't seem to want to restock Newline Designs in the UK, set up a website or do business selling Mongrel figures in anyway. Its most odd but, as stated, he clearly doesn't need the money and there are plenty of other companies who can have my business! |

So he doesn't take any Mongrel stock to the conventions then? Shame I could have got some friends in the US to pick some up for me. |

Fred – I was referring to the absence of any website selling Mongrel Miniatures. Being in the UK I have no idea if he takes Mongrel Minis to the US conventions he attends. From what I've read here on TMP it seems that he is willing to sell the Pontoonier Miniatures stuff. Maybe someone on that side of the pond can shed light on what this chap does and does not sell? I've long since given up the ghost trying to fathom out what his intentions are with regards to the Mongrel stuff. |

Sorry about reviving an old thread. I went on a 'Cold War' mongrel miniature hunt a few years back and ended up with way more than I can find space for. Ive gradually offloaded a bit here and there. If anyone is still interested I've got Quite a few British/Soviet and Afghans left. At least a platoon plus support weapons for the British and Soviets. Contact me on email keith-halsey at hotmail dot com. Hope it helps. Keith |
