Everyone knows the view of the Emperor of stifles – death to the stifle!

general btsherman11 May 2013 7:56 a.m. PST

I think that only supporting members should have the ability to stifle.

Dynaman878911 May 2013 9:12 a.m. PST

Can someone I have not stifled let me know what this thread is about?

Rrobbyrobot11 May 2013 9:58 a.m. PST

Is it that time of month again?

I don't use them so what do I care.

Stifles are the sponge hammer of the weak, I don't use them.

I think general btsherman has an interesting point which should be carefully considered.

Quiet reflection

To be honest… I feel the TMP has gone down the drain from what it was a decade ago.

Why? Because it is not about the hobby anymore, but about people living on a cult around their person or trying to create a cult around their person.

I really hope this place will find a return ot its old glory. I can still remember when people woiuld not constantly insult one another. When you could ask a question and get an answer, instead of a dozen posts where people try to unload their knowledge on a topic that is at best vaguely related. A time when people did not try to hyjack other peoples posts. A time when it was not all about Zardoz, Boobies and who can rise to the status of a TMP celebraty instead of taking a look at the real world around them.

Just my two cents

(September, 2011)

And a worthy two cents. A quiet reflection that managed to clang the bell a few times!

Folks, you won't realise what you have till its gone. Get it on.

nevals11 May 2013 2:19 p.m. PST

@ Blues. My thoughts, exactly.

Charles Marlow11 May 2013 2:31 p.m. PST

Stifles are un-American and un-Christian.

SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER11 May 2013 3:12 p.m. PST

A stifle will sometimes help contract a page that has gone wide if nothing else, so NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Blues For Baby and Me- seriously? I think you need to take a step back. TMP is a wonderful resource where my many and varied questions are unfailingly answered politely and promptly. I pretty much ignore the rest and I'm happier for it.
Edit: Zardoz is funny but Boobies is childish and offensive. I dread the day my two daughters are old enough to follow their dad on to TMP and I have to try and explain that board to them.

Texas Jack12 May 2013 6:04 a.m. PST

I agree with Agent Brown (except about the boobies thing- I donīt think itīs offensive, but it certainly is childish, but hey, we play with toy soldiers you know. Besides, if you turn that board off you donīt have to see it), TMP is a wonderful resource and for the most part, peopled with very nice folks who are always happy to share their knowledge. And actually, it is a much more calm place now than it was when I first came here (some would say too much so!).

Gazzola12 May 2013 7:56 a.m. PST

Agent Brown and Texas Jack

Good posts.

Texas Jack12 May 2013 8:34 a.m. PST

Thank you Gazzola.

Cyclops12 May 2013 9:13 a.m. PST

Likewise. And I think being a father to daughters makes me a bit over sensitive about some things. Still think the Boobies board is unnecessary and gives a bad impression. Grown men acting embarrassingly juvenile over ludicrously proportioned toys is never going to look good to outsiders.

Threads like this and some of the comments here gives me another chance to post this again,
As I have said before in similar threads its pretty funny that some here equate using the button with being "thin skinned"," feelings easily hurt",Ect. Or imply it as a sign of weakness or childishness. But some use the button so as to no longer have to see some of the actions and rudeness that some of our fellow posters commit here. And we have seen that some can become quite nasty.s Now some wear it as a sign of pride that they have never used it.Well kudos and good for them. Some say its "censorship" or somehow restricting or denying them their "free rights". But as the poster's comments can still be seen shows that that is not the case. Some here use their right to not to have to read others comments if they want. But I like others could not care less if I receive one. And if I give one. Its none of their business. Robert

As you like to use various posts as an opportunity for your repeated excuse for those who stifle, I will also take the opportunity to repeat what I have said.

There is no need to stifle. One should have the courage to just ignore the posts of those who disagree with you. If they offend you in any way, again, ignore them and move on. It is easy to do. You don't have to reply.

I haven't stifled anyone but I don't hold it up as a matter of pride, I hold it up as a fact of life. I don't need to stifle because I can ignore any posts if I want to. I (and everyone else) do not have to read or reply to them. And really, if the 'offending' post is still visible, that makes an utter mockery of the whole stifle idea, doesn't it and a mockery of those who use the stifle?

Finally – Death to the Stifle!

badwargamer12 May 2013 2:40 p.m. PST

Oh god…they are at it again…sigh….I accept full responsibilty for this..although the irony was not lost on most of you, someone had to seriously discuss it again… Bith sides have valid points about stifling, but ultimately it doesn't affect anyone who is stifled, so there really is no harm in it if someone wants to use it. If you want to do..if you dond. then don't…how simple is that!!

Grand Duke Natokina12 May 2013 5:06 p.m. PST

No.

Grand Duke Natokina12 May 2013 5:06 p.m. PST

If you don't like it, don't use it.

That ought to earn me a few new ones.

The whole stifle thing is a joke and will be for as long as it remains. When I tell people about it who do not attend the site, they don't believe me.

It almost put one off from viewing the site at all, until I told him that the mass majoirty of members do not use it and that there are some great posts and info to view, which is why most of us stick around.

Sorry - only verified members can post on the forums.
