Excellent stuff.

Very interesting mate – good to see the elevation. We'll be doing this in 28mm so will be concentrating on the actions around Gamarra Mayor and Abecho, where the Fighting Fifth and 1st Division were trying to seal off the French escape route. I've been working off Col. Lipscombe's excellent work, but it good to have confirmed that our table can be flat as a tack around those 2 villages.

Nice map.

The Liphook Historical Wargames Club is doing a refight of Vittoria on 23 June using some 30 wargamers. I think they may still have a few vacancies.

Hi Tzen67,

Contact Trevor Maroney tmaroney@hotmail.co.uk. I know he is looking for more players for this mammoth game. Players will command Brigades, Divisions and Corps. To give you an idea of the scale there is a team of five umpires and he is looking for a total of 48 players.

I did Albuera a couple of years ago with them and it seemed very real, since all moves were under time pressure.

The game will use 3,000 25mm figures.

Mnay thanks for this. I've been doing a lot of research on Vitoria (though article for MW turned down for publication -too much history not enough games). I've spent ages on Google Earth trying to locate where the "ravine" was that Villatte carried out his ambush on the 71st. From this it looks quite clear – and a bit further to the east than I thought.

Best of luck with the game.

Thank you Rod.

I can confirm that we do have a few vacancies for a large scale battle of Vittoria on 23 June in Liphook, East Hampshire. You can contact me direct at tmaroney@hotmail.co.uk for details on the battle and an enlistment paper.

This battle is suitable for all wargamers be they role players, board or figure gamers, even beginners. It is subsidized and we are offering it FREE to full-time students: we are looking for a new batch of "Young Generals" for Leipzig in September.

We plan to fight the battle on 3 x 6' tables 36' long using over 3000 25/28 mm figures. Vittoria, like all our previous battles, will be fast and furious and fought over 48 10/12 minute periods. Be warned, it's a long day. Experience has shown that we achieve an ebb and flow similar to the historical battle but with different outcomes – it all depends on the abilities of the commanders and how they work together as a team.

We have been fighting these large Napoleonic battles since Marengo in 2000. You'll find out more about us on our website at napoleon200.org.
