So for the past few months I've been really into gaming on my computer, played lots of games, I really didn't do any big painting projects, I painted a few space ships, they are easy, you can paint one or a few in a couple of hours, no big deal. I have also painted a few random figures here and there. But no projects. and now I'm gamed out, no computer games I want to play that much. But I don't really feel like doing anything big painting either. I have a feew blue moon ACW, but I don't feel like painting them, I have blue moon napoleoincs but don't feel like painting them ect. |

um, perhaps you could actually play a game with all of the figures that you have painted? |

Not sure how, none of my "projects" are gamable, a few are close, I guess I could try and force my self to paint the last few units. |

none of my "projects" are gameable, How can that possibly be true? |

A skirmish game, my son – how many figs do you need? |

How can that possibly be true? I move on to another project before the one I'm on is gameable. |

I'd suggest you go out for a night on the town, personally. A complete change of pace is a better re-motivator than trying variations on a pattern in my experience. |

What do you think you should do? And why? Hobby activity is recreational. If I'm not having fun, I go do something else that *is* fun. Do whatcha wanna, do whatcha wish, Jump inna water and **** the fish! It's spring. Seriously consider going outside for a while. Slowly and cautiously at first, of course. |

Never "force yourself" to paint. You are suffering from too much input. A kind of "burn-out". This will pass. Many years ago, I started to paint a Roman Legion. After eight cohorts it was impossible to go on, and the Legion was not finished until a year later. So, think about a period and/or a region far different from what you have done up till now. Read books (Interested in SF ? Try "Fallen Dragon" by Peter Hamilton and learn about future piracy made legal. American War of Independence ? Bernard Cornwell's "The Fort". Perhaps Alexander ? "God of War" by Christian Cameron, a Hoplite re-enactor who makes you feel the push of the phalanx in your back). See movies. Read history, especially about periods and/or regions you did not know about. Ever heard of the First Carlist War ? The Perry brothers make great figures and the armies are small enough to build. Or really realize you are the Master of your Universe and create an Imagi-Nation. The only thing you need is lift up your head and see there is so much more to see than can dreamed of

Get a boardgame with figures .paint the figures and play the game all within its own boundary.worth a try. Try to avoid games with expansions.

Go take a few long walks in the country. When you start looking at the terrain and find yourself considering the best way to gain tactical advantage from it your ready to start gaming again. |

Play roleplaying games that relate to your minis. Add a few here and there as needed. |

zippy's got it. Never force a hobby; you'll only end up more frustrated than ever. Go do something else for awhile and when the urge to paint comes back, then paint. |

Getting out and hiking seems alike a good idea. Perhaps even take a nice long drive to someplace you haven't been ever, or at least for a long time.Hiking mountain tracks, I find myself wondering if this is the sort of country my Vikings would identify with, if this is the sort of trails they had, would this make an interesting Viking battlefield. I took one old dirt road which forded a small stream, and thought o it in terms of a battlefield, though probably for ACW or maybe a colonial game. Doing some reading about an interesting period also has much to commend it. Maybe historical novels, instead of spending hours trying to ferret out the details of the Saxon order of battle at Leipzig. Finally, give a little thought to what happened before this lack of enthusiasm set in. That way, you can anticipate it, should it start to happen again, and quickly move to counter it. Grelber |

Lots of good suggestions above. Perhaps you can watch some films for the various periods you have been interested in. That can re-activate your interest. Of course, there are also games for virtually any period. Hopefully you can then be inspired to look at what you need to make periods "gameable" and fill in gaps in your collection. Finally, give a little thought to what happened before this lack of enthusiasm set in. That way, you can anticipate it, should it start to happen again, and quickly move to counter it. I can see that the field of "Wargamer regression therapy" is wide open. Qualified practitioners could take a gamer back to the bad experience which put them off a period/army/painting. Perhaps a job opportunity for some of the members? Imagine your battle weekends, historical visits and re-enactments being tax deductable or even paid for by health insurance.. |

If you can't pick a period/project, wargaming may not be for you. If you can't pick, find another hobby. If you can pick but can't paint or make, buy pre-painted and pre-made. If you can pick but can't buy pre-painted and pre-made,buy a board game. If you
but can't buy a board game, you can't wargame. |

whenever you are lacking enthusiasm for a new project, the best advice is to read a book on something that might be intereesting as a project. if a good book does not inspire you, then noting else will keep the enthusiasm going, so try the next book and period idea. |

TMP link It occurs to me your mojo has gone. You need a break and do soemthing that you enjoy. As mentioned in the above linked thread, don't game something because you think you should because you are a gamer. If that means taking a break so nbe it. |
