Great stuff. I might have to pick up some of those sharpshooters to compliment my Perry ACW minis, too…

FWIW, the 3rd Maine lost it's regimental color at Chancellorsville. At Gettysburg, it only had the National Color, and there is a question as to whether it had the unit designation applied. It was captured in the Peach Orchard on 2 July, but never seen again afterward.

The reason is that the original national color had been sent back, and a new one ordered during winter quarters of 1862-1863. It is thought that the replacement national, requested from the QM department arrived sans markings, and there wsn't time to acquire paint, brush, and find someone to hand letter it prior to the Chancellorsville Campaign.

The 4th Maine's regimental flag was their original from 1861, and was of the "war" pattern, which had a different seal on it than the normal state seal. Here's an image of the original up to Augusta.

The 3rd Maine's regimental flag at Chancellorsville was also of the same pattern as the 4th Maine's
