Hello all, I've made some guard rails using brass roods and solder. My problem is, I need a number of them for various projects I have planned and it is rather time consuming to make, in particular the style I made for stairs (hand rails). I have cast various objects in resin. I achieve great quality but it is rather fragile. Since I do not need to achieve super high detail (they are just rods bent or connected to one another with solder. is their some material I can poor into a mold that would give me something more durable maybe a bit "rubbery" or bendy? something that won't snap. ;) Thanks John D. |

John. I was going to suggest resin, not sure what type you're using. I get mine through Micromart – great stuff. I would go to any of those dollar type stores and look in the toys section for the cheap little bags of cars w/traffic cones and guard rails. I picked up a few bags for my ATZ games. They're made of rubbery plastic, and probably won't have to paint. Good luck P. |

If you use the right mold making material, you can cast with white metal. There are a lot of silicone rubbers that take the heat of low melting point metals quite well. check out smooth-on.com and do a search on the side bar. You can order "sample" kits, which is $25 USD, and big enough to make quite a few molds. Then just cast with white metal, or even the solder you used. |

My first choice would be white metal, but then you'll need a melting pot too. If you don't want to go the molten metal route, you can try a harder resin or maybe a casting plastic. |

redmist thanks for the help. Regarding other manufacturers' guard rails, mine are specially made for some buildings I am making for buildings set inside a manufacturing plant. |
