OK, so I have this old bottle of GW Armour Wash paint, and it's no longer available and hasn't been for some time. I use it fairly often (anytime I use metallics) and I was wondering if there is a new equivalent, as I'm running low.

Also, I'm not entirely sure that it's a different thing altogether from plain old Black Wash. I've never been able to tell the difference. They certainly look the same in the bottle.

So before you all tell me to just use Black Wash (aka Nuln Oil) if I can't tell the difference, can anyone tell me if there IS a difference, or if this was just GWs way of getting me to buy more paint? And if there is a difference, did anything ever replace Armour Wash?

All good questions that I don't have good answers to grin

BUT try Army Painters dark tone, it's a replacement for Nuln Oil and cheaper. I've switched from exclusively GW washes to Army Painter. The Strong Tone works as Devlan Mud did.

Hard to say, but check out the Coat 'de Arms paints and see if they have an armor wash in their line. Those are the original GW paints (although some of them have been renamed).

Coat'de Arms and Privateer makes good armor washes. I believe Secret Weapon sells one as well.

The old armour wash had tiny flecks of metallic in there, like a REALLY runny chainmail.

I myself would mix up a batch of Future mixed with black,a slight amount of dk blue and pewter or silver to replace it.

The P3 one works well.

Oh, and Armour Wash is very slightly blue…

I have found the new GW washes to be a poor substitute for inks. Too thin. Dries a little opaque and looks rough.
