Hi,

As many of you will already be aware of it will be the 800th anniversary of the Battle of Agincourt in 2015. There are a few events running that year:

Saturday 25th July 2015: "The Big Shoot"-

For anyone interested in Medieval warfare this is a must see event. The idea is basically to get 1000 archers wearing the correct early 15thC kit etc to loose of a series of volleys- something not seen by any margin since the end of the Hundred Years War.

Details here:

azincourt2015.info

Sunday 26th July 2015: "Bataille d'Azincourt"

The following day there will be a re-enactment of that fateful day:

azincourt-alliance.org.uk

Tuesday 7th – Saturday 24th October 2015: "The March"

Finally there will be a March simulating Henry's desperate plight as he and his army attempted to march on to the safety of Calais.

Something for all the family(?) :smt001

How can you ask such a thing if you're TMP name is St.Crispin? You're going to be there, right? ;o)

Darrell.

Let's see, St Crispin lives 1500 miles closer than me. I doubt I'll get their either, and my name's Henry! So please take piccies!

Will there be a good turn out from french reenactment societies eager to play their part?

Sounds like a quip, I know, but it is a serious question … is it a big day for the French? Or do English enthusiasts take those roles as well?

I must confess I am tempted …

Phil

I'd like to see it. I don't expect I'll be there but I'm sure it will be all over You Tube.

A thousand archers will not be more than a beginning of replicating HYW archery. If they stack up 12 to 16 deep in a block, that will be close enough to replicating the massed effect of c. 10 companies of longbowmen. But I suspect that those "1,000" archers will be stretched across the battlefield a couple of ranks deep is all, a puny visually inacurate simulation….

Keraunos09 May 2013 2:15 a.m. PST

id be more worried about how accurate the simulation of the march is.

bags I not to follow after them for a few days…

Fisherking09 May 2013 1:29 p.m. PST

I'm not so much worried about the accuracy of the replication as I am worried about the health and safety of the audience. Tourists of all stripes are always wandering around in off limit areas. Multiple volleys from 1000 archers may very well find one or more of them.
