Only officer & Nco union troopers had stripes on their trousers

Are you sure on the leg stripe? When Wilders Brigade received Cavalry trousers the ordinary soldiers removed the yellow stripe so they would not be mistaken for cavalry.

that how i`ve read and re-read many uniform accounts for Union cavalry.
