Good luck with Bolt Action Steve. I am curious how you will find them, as I havenīt played them as of yet. Right now both Rapid Fire and BKCII have caught me, so I wonder how they will match up with Bolt Action. Nice pics on your blog btw. |

I am trying them for the first time tomorrow. They look fun to me, a little more gamesmanship than simulation, but I am cool with that. There are a lot of simulator rulesets already, and this game has a good chance of sinking its teeth into my 15 year old son. |

The more you know about WWII the less you will be able to play games in that period with any joy. The same goes for any period. I know far too much about the American Civil War to like any set of rules, including my own! |

I like them- overall prefer Iron Ivan, but happily play Bolt Action |

I just ordered the ruleset but i think I'll play them with 15mm Figs so the feel is better (plus I have so much 15mm already). |

@Only Warlock: Interesting ou should say that as I've been contemplating a change of scale myself. I only have a small 20mm WWII collection so it wouldn't be any great loss to shelve them..or sell them. I was thinking of 10mm as I really like the Pendraken range and the prices are really good. The other option are 15mm Old Glory as the company is literally 2 minutes from my house!
15mm is winning at present simply on the grounds that there is more scenery available at present in that scale. |

Hey Stokiesteve, I have 15mm individually based on UK 5p coins (about 16-17mm wide) and they look really good. They were old FoW minis and used to be on FoW bases but they are much better now and are a substitute for 28mm or 20mm platoon skirmish gaming like BA. As for BA, it is a fun based, quick play game that I am sure you will have great fun with. As mentioned it is more of a fun game than a simulation of WWII combat, and I much prefer simulation if possible. Strongest points for BA are the random activation and suppression rules IMO, although weaker on the command and control side of things and I'm not too keen on the ranges for weapons relative to movement. Definitely give it a pop though. Enjoy, let us know how you get on

Hi Ark. I've noticed the ranges look a little odd, especially bazzooka fire etc. But to be honest I like this approach as it is a simple way to stop tanks etc ruling the tabletop which is m biggest gripe with other rule sets. |

We've found we get credible results with Bolt Action if we use credible force structures – three platoons (or maybe even just two if they have very plenty of supporting mortars/mgs) to dislodge one platoon in defence seems to give both sides a reasonable chance. We've also found that putting 50& of the defenders units on 'ambush' for the first turn is quite a good device; lets the attacker start the game with a fair bit of coordination at the start of the action
.after that things tend to go pear-shaped in the traditional fashion. |
