I want to do a US rifle company for D-Day at 1:1 & was thinking about using the new 15mm PSC us infantry box. Looking at the picture of the sprue on their website I can't be sure exactly how many M1 riles there are in the box but I'm thinking I'm going to be short.

So if I give all the HQs & weapon platoon carbines & Thompsons (not right I know but I cant do the weapons platoon until the come out with the heavy weapons box abyway) I still need enough M1s for 3 rile platoons of 3 squads. In a 12 man squad with 1 BAR & a squad leader with a SMG I need 10 M1 rifles. So that's 90 total for the company.

Even with under strength squads of 10 men & give the assistant auto rifleman a carbine I am looking a needing 63 M1 rifles. Anyone know how many rifles come in the box? I suppose I could buy 2 boxes but I'd end up with an awful lot of extra bazooka/smg/bar figures going to waste. Has anyone else had this problem and what was your solution.

Thanks
Aonghus

Aonghus,
The short answer is no, there aren't enough. Here are the contents of the box:
5 Officers talking on handset
5 RTOs
5 Medics
5 Bazookas
5 Bazooka Loaders
(all of the above have pistol holsters, except the doc, who is unarmed)

40 Garands
20 M-1 Carbines
30 M-1 Thompsons (5 are talking on 'Walkie-Talkies')
25 BARs
5 Springfield 03s

Unlike the German set, there are no weapons options (no ability to choose whether to give a guy a rifle or SMG), the box uses every weapon.

I'm waiting on US Hvy Wpns too (have them pre-ordered through The Warstore). Anyone have a release date?
V/R,
Jack

That's what I was afraid of I would have much preferred something like:

60 Garands
25 Carbines
10 Thompsons
15 BARS

same number of figures but a better mix. I hate throwing away perfectly good figures even if they're cheap & I don't think anyone on ebay is going to want a box that has been picked clean of riflemen. I wonder how old glory command decision figures match up with PSC I could get a 50 pack of rifles to supplement the PSC box. Does anyone know if they are wearing the D-Day uniform or the later M-1943 uniform.

Actually you might be surprised at how many people would love to get their hands on your left over bazookas.

What a screwy weapons ratio.

It is just how the sprues are set up. The Russians also have far too many SMGs, but at least I can form SMG platoons out of those:)

It's a pity really. I would have thought there would have been more choice available as to whether to assemble the models with Rifles or SMG's. Weren't SMG's generally limited to Officers and NCO's only? Also how common was the Carbine amongst rifle companies? I always thought it was mainly issued to crewmen, NCO's, ammo carriers, observers and the like.

according to link a rifle company inc weapons platoon had:

9 BARs, 28 carbines & 146 rifles

additionally the company had a weapons pool 5 Bazookas, 6 SMGs & 6 additional BARs do if you hand these out to people previously carrying rifles you get:

15 BARs, 28 carbines, 6 SMG & 129 rilfes

I have no doubt that there were more Thompsons than the official TO&E especially among veteran units but nothing near the mix in the PSC box. Even adding another 9 smg to the mix & dropping rifles accordingly the ratio

BAR:Carbine:SMG:Rifle should be approx:
1:2:1:8

so leaving all the other figures alone on a sprue I have 24 slots avaliable in my 5 sprues for bar, carbine, thomson & rifle inc springfleld the logical mix would be

2 BAR, 4 carbine, 2 thompson & 16 rifle (inc 1 springfield) per each of the 5 sprues

instead we have

5 BAR, 4 carbine, 6 thompson & 9 rifle (inc 1 springfield)
