Looking to scratch-build an orbital station for X-Wing, not Death Star level by any means, just a standard planetary defense installation with say a half dozen turrets and shield generator. Any ideas of existing kits/parts that would be useful? Been looking on eBay to no avail, just a few real world, Star Trek and the Babylon 5 kits. Sure I could use the DS9 with some modifications, but looking for alternatives as well.

Thanks

How about one of the larger UFO flying saucer kits as a starting point? This kit from Pegasus could be modified

If you are looking to do some Rim Space gaming try "welding" hulls of larger ships together into a station. Add external weapon systems and docking platforms. Some LED lights. I have done this for fleet scale games.

Buy a big lump of foam – that green stuff for flower arrangements, hack lumps out of it and add assorted bits of plastic kits. Voila, a space station built into an asteroid.

Thinking big chunks of foam insulation glued and broken up to look like an Asteroid? Then add some bits here and there..

Some of the platforms from the video game should be easy to make.

What a great idea! Super scenario building block for stopping the shuttle from getting to the station, or getting far enough from it to jump to hyperspace.

There are quite a few plastic model kits from historical to imagined. Here's just a quick google image search: link

Clunky to navigate, but the great thesauros of aviation/space kits!
