Setting up new painting desk, and in need of new pinting lamp.

I know there are 'better' globes to use but couldn't find on interwebs.

Any pointers?

Depends on the lamp, you can get 'daylight' CFL tubes for 11 watt desk lamps as well as 'cool' and 'warm' varieties – look around the sewing stores/counters or art shops for replacement tubes for 'Ott' lights.

Other 'daylight' balance lights may be harder to track down – first check what the 'degrees K' for daylight bulbs are, some brands only list the 'degrees K' rather than spell it out in full. Regular florescent tubes usually have the 'degrees K' marked on the end of the tube near the socket, so you could replace any tubes in the room lighting with daylight tubes. Most CFL and LED bulbs are NOT daylight rated, being either 'warm' or 'cool'.

On line you probably should be looking at photography dealers and the better sort of art shops like Dick Blick, Eckersley's or who ever else is surviving on-line. I saw some nice LED photo floods being used by some Museum researchers but I don't know who sells them, they are in my 'round to it' basket.

I have two different designs of OTTLIGHT,S and they work great, one of them has a folding adjustable arm and I almost did not buy it but very glad I did. I purchased it at the local Walmart after Christmas on sale for 19.99

I bought one with an arm which extends out from the base and uses a 50 watt halogen bulb. Small bulb but it sure throws out the light. Right in the $20 USD price range.

I would generally advise avoiding LED lamps. Most of the ones I've seen at reasonable prices tend to have wonky colors, and less light output than other types of bulbs. There are various LED photofloods designed for photography work, but they tend to run from several hundred to several thousand dollars apiece.

I've heard good things about AZLO's CFL bulbs. They were designed for photographers, so the light output, color temperature and CRI are supposed to be good. link

The downside is that they tend to be a bit larger than other brands.
