Hi everyone;
I am looking for an image of a painting of the Thirty Years War, it shows troops (Imperial?) in a sort of victory celebration, raising Pikes and Swords up, with their mounted commander in the foreground.
It might be Wallenstein, but I'm not sure.
I had seen the digital image a couple of years ago, can't find it now.
Does anyone recognize this description.
Thanks
Joe

Ding, Ding Ding!
That's it:-)
I was going to PM you about this as your name came to my mind as the one person who would know the picture.
Can you tell me more about the painting…who is it.
Wallenstein, Adolphus??

Thanks Daniel

And to add some more to my questions…where can I get a print of it.
Thanks again;
Joe

It's Gustavus giving thanks for the victory at Breitenfeld IIRC. It's a huge 19th or early 20th Century painting which I've seen "live" here in Sweden as part of an exhibition. But I can not for the life of me remember the painter's name nor does it turn up when I do the easy searches online.

Hi Daniel. Would this be the name? I just did a google image search and the link below (some photos below, via the link, show the same painting.) The description indicates a period author. I do not know enough about Victorian Art to know otherwise. Maybe mismarked?

Battle of Breitenfeld (1631), The victory of Gustavus Adolphus; Bautzen circa 1620, by Matthäus Merian

Thanks for your information llodic.

I really like that painting, would like to have a print in my game room.
Now; thanks to you and Daniel, I have more information for my search.
Daniel; That is a great story that you have seen the actual painting in real life.

It is not by Merian, Merians print is the one of the burning city being besieged below the painting we are discussing. Notice the ";" between Adolphus and Bautzen. And Merian's style is quite diffrent as well.

The painting, which is now a photo, seems to be free of copyright laws, so you might be able to enlarge it with some nice software, and then have it printed out.

Daniel, the labeling of those four photos is kind of weird, simply because there seems to be reference to 5 photos/paintings instead in my original link. The image is wiki might be of a Finnish source(?), based on the URL suffix. I will do some more searching, as know I NEED to find this author!
